About me

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I offer counselling at times when life experiences can bring emotional difficulties that impact on our well-being and relationships. I work by helping you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental environment. My approach to working with clients is to build a trusting relationship where we work together to talk about your concerns. I have experience in working with a variety of issues, some of which might be difficult to share, but I provide warmth and empathy in a safe space for you to explore these difficult moments.

I am a qualified Integrative counsellor and Clinical Supervisor, and am Accreditted with the BACP. This means that I adhere to the BACP's Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. My accredited status means that I have been assessed and have demonstrated that I practice at a higher level. I am an EMDR therapist in training.

I am trained to integrate Clarkson's five relationship model, and have added to this by undertaking further integrative transpersonal training. As an Integrative counsellor, I draw upon different counselling theories that offer flexible ways of working with you, keeping your best interests in mind in our work together.  This includes integrating EMDR as a therapeutic approach.

There might be current or past issues that you would like to talk through, and I can help you to be aware of re-occurring patterns. I work with a wide range of issues and have an interest in working with issues of diversity and difference, cultural issues, or issues that might be perceived as taboo or unspeakable in society, community or with family. I am experienced in working with bereaved clients, including complex bereavement and clients bereaved by sudden or traumatic death. I work with clients who bring issues at the end of life, and work with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and other aspects of trauma in adulthood or childhood. I also work with clients who want to explore their present situations and I provide counselling for anxiety, depression, low self esteem, work related stress.

Sometimes we find ourselves in a cycle with what feels like no way out, and change seems impossible. I work with clients to build confidence or help you to look at these issues and put strategies for coping or change in place.

I have experience working with counselling students and qualified therapists.

I have an established private practice and I have worked in a counselling agency as well as seeing clients who are referred by their employer and EAP. I have previously worked in local counselling services and in a bereavement service.

I offer Clinical Supervision.

EMDR Therapy - I am working with clients using EMDR therapy. I have completed Part 1 and 2 of EMDR training.  EMDR (eye-movement desensitisation & re-processing) uses a a body stimulation such as auditory tones, tapping or holding pulsators, and eye-movement whilst focusing on specific memories and thoughts to help you process these experiences. Clients notice that their symptoms of anxiety, stress, trauma, pain, negative beliefs, low self-esteem and behaviours are reduced.

EMDR therapy can be discussed at the first assessment. EMDR therapy is helpful if you are looking for shorter-term therapy, or it can be integrated into long term counselling/psychotherapy work.

Some clients may benefit from EMDR therapy 2-3 times a week. This reduces the amount of time you will need to attend so overall it can be cost-effective, The sessions may need to be longer, so two 50 minute sessions, to allow enough time to attend to all aspects of the therapy protocol, but this is very much an individual way of working.  We can discuss this during the initial assessment.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
