MBACP Dip Therapeutic Counselling

About me

We are all unique in our experiences and as a result we all think, feel and behave differently. As part of my role as a counsellor I will always work to understand your unique perspective and how you see the world. I will listen actively and deeply and I will provide a safe space for us to work together, at your pace, to explore any issues you might be facing in your life.

I appreciate that trying to find the 'right' counsellor for you might feel like a daunting prospect. I believe that building a trusting, professional counselling relationship is key to you getting the most out of your counselling and so it is really important that this feels like the right fit. I very much encourage open dialogue about this and believe you should be in the 'driving seat' when it comes to your counselling. For this reason, I have an integrative approach to my counselling work but I maintain a 'person centred core'. In practice this means I draw on various different counselling theories as appropriate to each individual but in a non-directive way (you always have a choice).

I offer individual counselling to adults on a long term or short term basis (with regular reviews). I can provide in person sessions (conducted in a COVID-safe manner) or remote sessions over Zoom or the telephone.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile; if you think I might be the right counsellor for you then please feel free to get in touch and we can arrange a free 15 minute telephone call to get to know each other a little to see if we feel we can work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications & Memberships

I am a qualified counsellor holding a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I also hold a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I work with adults and in addition to private practice work, I have gained valuable experience through volunteering as a counsellor at the Ellenor Hospice, working with the bereaved, those caring for others with serious health conditions and those living with life limiting health conditions themselves.

Prior to training as a counsellor I worked in London for many years in a corporate environment, working with clients and families from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. Combining active listening skills with the need to work in a professional and confidential manner is something I have therefore needed to embody and demonstrate for over 20 years.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
