Angela Mutum MBACP
You may feel that you are struggling to survive when what you really want is to be thriving. You may be unclear about what is troubling you. You may simply know that something’s just not right.
Maybe you doubt the wisdom of some of choices which you have made and would like to talk to someone about what you might do to adjust those choices to suit who you really are, free from anyone else's agenda for you.
The landscape of our lives shifts constantly. The aim of my counselling work is to walk beside you when you feel lost in the landscape of your life and to support you as you re-orientate yourself. Slowly and sensitively, I walk beside you as you navigate particularly difficult ebbs and flows, perhaps arising from bereavement, redundancy or the end of caring responsibilities.
I have a private practice as a Gestalt counsellor based in North London. As a lawyer for over 25 years, I became skilled in helping clients to clarify realistic objectives for themselves and in facilitating their progress towards them. As a counsellor, I provide a non-judgemental setting in which to support individuals who need to navigate similar processes in their personal lives, perhaps in response to feelings of stress, anxiety or depression.
Ultimately, I aim to give you time and space to let the light in on your experience so that we both see you and your experience for what they really are. "Confidence is linked to how well our perceptions match reality." (Matthieu Ricard)
Much of my counselling work has been concerned with clients' life transitions following on from bereavement, estrangement, divorce and other losses, illness, redundancy, retirement, menopause, burnout and addiction. I worked as a volunteer counsellor for a mental health charity, for a carers' charity and for a bereavement service for nearly four years. In that time, I gained much experience of counselling people with unpaid caring responsibilities, in particular those with family members who have a mental health diagnosis.
I have an interest in family (especially stepfamily) relationships and estrangement. I am working towards accreditation with the BACP.
Sessions take place in Camden and in Crouch End. Do get in touch with me via this site and let's discuss a way forward for you.
