Angie Macfarlane (MBACP, Dip.Couns)
Maybe you feel overwhelmed, struggling with many issues and need support to help you carry it all, or are looking to focus on one thing which you want to change, but you're not sure how. Perhaps you wish to enhance your life and general wellbeing. Whatever your reasons for seeking support, I work together with you to meet your individual needs.
You may feel that in everyday life, you concentrate on everyone else, whilst your own needs are neglected. Counselling is about taking time for self-care, with support from someone who won't judge you or tell you what to do, but who will really hear you and help you explore to find your own answers.
I believe that you are the expert on yourself and that my job is to hold a mirror up so you can see things from a different angle, uncovering answers in the process. I create a confidential space, free from judgement, where you feel safe to begin exploring your issues, whether they be personal, professional or relationship based. I will help you develop understanding, self-awareness and coping mechanisms as you decide how to move forward.
I work together with clients to promote wellbeing and resilience, and I am here to provide support through the difficult times when you may be finding it hard to cope.
I am experienced in and have a particular passion for helping people find their way through the incredibly difficult time surrounding loss and bereavement. I have Advanced Specialist training status in this with the National Counselling Society. I also currently volunteer as a Bereavement counsellor with the charity Cruse.
When you visit me, you will be welcomed into a warm, comfortable setting. My room is dedicated to counselling, and is a confidential space.
It's an honour for me to sit alongside my clients in their darkest times, and to share in their joyful moments too as they explore and grow. I'd love to hear from you so we can begin your counselling journey together!
Please get in touch with an email or a phone call so we can arrange to meet for an initial 90 minute introductory session where we will discuss your needs, begin to understand some of the issues you bring, and decide if we are comfortable working together.
After the initial session, if you decide to continue, we will arrange to meet weekly for sessions lasting 50 minutes.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor, and I have worked with a wide range of clients and issues in various counselling services over several years. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework. My background is in Health and Mental Health, with a career spanning 17 years.
I work Integratively as I believe no single theory fits everyone. This means I weave several approaches together, tailoring them to fit your unique needs. The relationship between client and counsellor is a huge part of the therapy and so I build a warm, trusting relationship from the beginning.
