About me

Registered Private Practitioner with AXA, Aviva and Vitality Insurance.

My experience in secondary schools working with children and young people, firstly as a special needs TA, then Schools Counsellor has given me an understanding of how challenging life can be for our children. Often parents/carers find themselves feeling helpless as they see their child experience anxiety, low self esteem, self harm, isolation, suicidal ideation...

Counselling may help children and young people to re-connect with themselves, find their confidence and help themselves to cope in the challenging world that we live in. All sessions are confidential (with the exception of safeguarding/significant risk issues) which may help your child share without the edge of upsetting or burdening those that they care for.

I have been a practicing counsellor for children and young people in schools, agency settings and in private practice for over 7 years. My specialist qualification is in children and young people and I am an accredited member of the BACP demonstrating a higher standard as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner.

I am also the founder of True Colours Counselling. A small referral agency where I have 12 counsellors in various parts of Essex who offer counselling and psychotherapy to children, young people and adults.  www.truecolourscounselling.com

What is it that you feel you are experiencing at the moment?

·      Anxiety

·      Stress (work, home or school life)

·      Depression

·      Relationship issues

·      Loss

·      Trauma

·      Feeling overwhelmed

·      Feeling confusion

·      Childhood experiences

·      Abuse

·      Pressure

·      Identity

·      Gender identity

·      Illness

·      ADHD

·      PTSD

·      Suicide

·      Attachment issues

To be honest this list could be endless as how we experience psychological distress is unique to all of us, as is the way we cope. However whatever it is this has led you to seek help, counselling will offer you the opportunity to explore your experiences to process and understand what it means for you and how it may have impacted on your life.

I offer person centred approach to facilitate the counselling process.  This means that your personal development and understanding of yourself will be brought about by being offered an unconditional therapy space where you will not feel judged or pushed, unequal or demeaned. I offer respect to you as an individual to work together in way that suits you.  Of course this can involve talking, listening, understanding and empathy, but sometimes words alone don’t always connect with deeper emotional experiences, so I also offer sand therapy, creative therapy and play therapy.

Whether you are a child, young person or adult my purpose built therapy room is full of resources to help you explore.  It is not a shared or a rented space in an office; it is a private room designed to bring a feeling of safeness, privacy and peace.  My practice is in a small rural village, which for some brings a feeling of ‘getting away from it all’.   I also offer off road private parking for clients, or for waiting parents or carers.  For those that don’t have access to a car I am a 7-minute walk from the train station.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) registration no: 339116.  I work within their ethical guidelines.  As such I am an ethical practitioner that meets the requirement of the BACP for continual personal and professional development and attendance of supervision. More information can be found on: https://www.bacp.co.uk. I am also fully insured and registered with the ICO office to protect your data, registration number: ZA254284.

The beauty of private practice is the flexibility I can offer.  Appointment times whenever possible will be tailored around your needs. Short notice appointments may also be available for those that feel that they would like a session urgently.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

The first step is to have an initial assessment. This is an information gathering process. It gives the therapist the opportunity to assess if counselling will be appropriate and beneficial. It also gives potential clients the space to choose if the environment and counsellor feels right for them. The fee for this is £110.00 and can be a one off, or a way forward for further sessions. If the client chooses then partners, carers or parents are welcome to the initial assessment, although part of the time will be spent on a one to one basis with the potential client.

If you choose to go forward with counselling the fee is £55 for a one to one confidential 50 minute session.
