Andrew Pickin Dip Couns
My name is Andrew Pickin and I am the sole counsellor at Ear To Listen Counselling.
As a human focused counsellor, I understand that sometimes in a person's life there maybe struggles/ issues that don't go away by talking to a close friend or family member. And sometimes you may not be able to talk to people close to you for fear of being judged. This is where counselling can benefit, as besides offering a safe place to discuss your problems and work them through you are guaranteed a non- judgemental, empathic and confidential space at all times.
My philosophy is that you are the expert on you and I have the function of facilitating you to truly build your life the way you want it to be. I will walk alongside you in that journey rather than instruct you how to walk or where to walk to.
The most important thing about a client to me is I “see” the person, not their problem, and not their symptoms (such as anxiety, depression, stress). I believe that behind a battle with any issue, difficulty or loss, is another human being, a unique individual.
Training, qualifications & experience
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
I am an individual member of BACP ( member number 817741)
During my study to become a qualified counsellor i volunteered in 2 roles. The first being within the judicial system which saw myself working with adults dealing with addiction, incarceration, relationship issues, family matters, depression and anxiety. The second was working with parent with children with Autism and other learning difficulties. This also saw me working with low self-esteem, depression, anxiety due to family, education and outside organisational issues. I believe that my 2 roles have helped myself gain a massive empathic understanding of working with these types of issues and have given myself the foundations to set up my own private practise and carry on providing therapy for others with the same issues in life.
As part of my membership with BACP I am always expanding my knowledge by participating in monthly supervision and also any courses that i feel may benefit the client and what issues they are bringing to me within our sessions together.
