About me

I believe in the humanistic principle that we are all unique and have the ability to discover our own solutions in a non-judgemental and supportive environment. I providing a safe and confidential space for you to explore the issues you face with me. I will not tell you what to do or find solutions or you, instead I offer non judgemental support you whilst you consider your options and come to your own decisions. In addition to my training as a Person centred counsellor it included other humanistic approaches i.e. Transactional Analysis, which some clients have found helpful in understanding family dynamics; and Gestalt e.g. the use of art, writing and stone work which younger clients and those who find communicating emotions though words difficult have responded well to.

I’ve gained a breadth of experience counselling clients working through issues of:

  • autism/aspergers
  • bereavement and ill health
  • gambling and alcohol addiction
  • self-harm
  • anger
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • eating disorders
  • sexuality
  • LGBTQ plus
  • relationships
  • sexual and domestic abuse.

I welcome clients who need someone to talk to when presented with life limiting diagnosis, and carers who are facing challenging situations and need additional support.

More about how I work:

I have a therapy room in the centre of Truro but will secure a room elsewhere for clients unable to access this. I’m a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBCAP) working ethically and with regular supervision towards Accreditation. I’m fully insured and have a current enhanced DBS check as I mentor university students and counsel young people in schools for a local charity Kooth in addition to my private practice.

Making the decision to come to counselling is daunting which is why I offer a free 50 minute session so that we can decide if we feel comfortable working together. I prefer to work face to face at least initially.

Self-care is very important to me and has always been part of my life especially given the stresses of full time work and raising a family. For a number of years alongside my career I was a carer for 2 elderly relatives who experienced dementia, so fully understand the challenges life brings.  Spending time with my family and friends is especially important and over the years I've found gardening, walking by the sea and in the countryside calms me especially in the company of my dogs. I find animals very healing as they accept us as we are, I'm currently enjoying training my puppy now I have more time again. I have practiced mindfulness and yoga for many years for the peace it brings.
