About me
Hello, I'm Amy, and I am a psychotherapist working with adults, couples and young people in the Manchester area and beyond.
People come to therapy for many different issues. For some people, it is due to ongoing mental health difficulties; for others, it is due to something that has happened recently in their life. What is often underlying the decision to come to therapy are difficulties in our interpersonal relationships.
As human beings, we are biologically designed to live in relationships with other human beings. The quality of these relationships has a huge impact on who we are and how we feel. Feeling unheard or misunderstood by those around us can impact how we navigate the world. This might have happened to you when you were a child or it might be happening in your current relationships. Without positive, fulfilling relationships in our lives, everyday living can become really tough.
I work in a collaborative way with my clients, to help you explore what is going on for you at the moment. Lots of clients come to therapy without really knowing what is going on for them or without any specific goals in mind, just a desire to change how things are at the moment. You choose the focus of our work together and my role is to help support you to explore what you need.
I do work with a particular focus on our attachment relationships which means examining the impact that our past relationships (usually with our caregivers) might have had on our understanding of the world and how we might repeat these patterns (or dynamics) going forward. I hope to help you first understand and then change these patterns to have a more fulfilling life.
I have a lot of experience in working with people who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual abuse and interpersonal trauma, or people who have had disruptions in their early attachment relationships and this is work that I find particularly fulfilling. I also work with couples where one or both parties have experienced abuse and might need to work out how to best support one another.
Training, qualifications & experience
My initial training was in Integrative Psychotherapy, which focused on several modalities including psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy. Since qualifying as a therapist, I have mainly worked with people who experienced significant interpersonal trauma, such as sexual abuse, domestic abuse and childhood neglect.
Alongside my private practice, I currently work in a private mental health hospital as well as a specialist service for people who experienced sexual violence. I am also trained in several therapeutic techniques for people who have experienced trauma, such as Rewind. I am qualified to work with ages 14 and above. I am also an accredited member of the BACP and therefore follow all of their ethical framework and procedures.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
