About me

Hi, I’m Amy.
I trained as a counsellor as part of my own recovery from personal crisis. I have been qualified since 2017 and my preferred modality is psychodynamic as I believe that our past impacts our present.

Working from a psychodynamic approach means I may ask challenging questions and we may probe into uncomfortable areas of your past, which you may find difficult, however, I believe the understanding and acceptance of previous experience and behaviours, informs our present. With awareness and knowledge, comes the ability to make change.

“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” Carl Jung

I am passionate in providing a safe, supportive, non-judgemental environment so you will be able to explore the issues that are important to you and work towards becoming your true authentic self.

I have several years' experience as a grief counsellor at Ashgate Hospice, I can help with all aspects of loss and anticipatory grief.

I am currently a student in couples therapy work and am currently able to offer reduced rates for couples in order to gain required hours whilst working towards my qualification.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP) and I practice within their framework.

I receive regular professional supervision and participate in frequent Continued Professional Development to ensure that I provide the highest level of service.

I currently work as a counsellor in private practice and for Ashgate Hospice, with patients, staff and family members.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
