Ami Patel - Adv Dip, MBACP.
Hello and I welcome you to my profile. My outlook of life is as quoted by Carl Jung -
‘I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become’.
Sometimes unexpected circumstances occur in life which can be out of your control leaving you feeling overwhelmed and not the person you are. However you choose to deal with this I am here to support you through this journey. I appreciate the differences each client brings that not one person shares the same path, I respect the uniqueness and the individuality of a person. In doing so I work in an empathic, compassionate and holistic way, aiming always to meet my client’s needs and focusing on their overall well-being. Hopefully achieving some clarity and increased self – awareness during the counselling sessions.
How Counselling can help:
Counselling is about self-exploration, gaining awareness and taking actions towards positive change. This is done by building a unique relationship where the focus is on you. Counselling is not about me giving you advice as you may already get this from friends and family, but it is about having a space where you can openly share issues and emotions in a non- judgemental environment and have support in the decisions you make, empowering you to make changes in your daily life.
Style of counselling:
I work as an Integrative Humanistic counsellor, whereby I integrate different theories and models of counselling that best suits my client’s needs. Person Centred approach is at the core of my framework providing an environment which is non-judgmental, safe and confidential. I combine techniques of Gestalt therapy and focus on body language such as bodily, vocally and facial expressions of the client this in result can help gain better self-awareness. I am also influenced by Object Relational theorists whereby I may explore with the client their childhood and in particular the relationships formed to primary caregivers as these relationships can be replayed later in life with others.
I like to work in a creative manner when suitable and encourage clients to use different tools in therapy such as handouts, reading of extracts, art or toys. I encourage clients to explore their thoughts, feelings and actions freely and openly with no judgement. Counselling does not need to be looking at the negative and I will highlight the positive and strength.
I am a registered member of the BACP working in line with their code of ethics. Offering long and short term counselling. I provide a non- judgemental, safe, confidential environment where you can truly be YOU.
