About me

How psychotherapy can help you

Psychotherapy can provide a safe, confidential, supportive space for you to bring any problems you are having and explore difficult thoughts and feelings. You might seek psychotherapy because you are feeling dissatisfied with your life, having problems with relationships, trying to process a loss or a change, thinking about your identity, or finding it difficult to make a big decision.

Perhaps you feel worried all the time, overwhelmed, chronically stressed, or maybe can't feel much of anything. You might want to make sense of the past, look at patterns you might be stuck in, think about your future or just get some extra support to help you through a tough time. These are all good reasons to come to therapy and no problem is too small if it's troubling you.

What I can offer you

I offer LGBTQ-friendly short or long term psychotherapy in central Brighton and online. I work integratively, which means that I draw on a variety of different therapeutic models, including existential therapy (thinking about meaning, purpose, choice and uncertainty in our lives), and mindfulness-based and compassion-focused therapy (exploring acceptance, self-compassion, and non-judgement towards ourselves), as well as considering the impact of our social worlds, relationships, and stress and trauma in our bodies. And it's totally fine if you have no idea what any of this means or what type of therapy you're looking for!

I see each client as an individual with different therapeutic needs. So I work flexibly but focus on creating a strong relationship between us, working together to meet your goals, and supporting you to find your own answers rather than providing advice.

What to expect in your first session

A good relationship between therapist and client has a big impact on the effectiveness of therapy, so I offer a free consultation to see if working together feels right for both of us. This gives you a chance to find out more about how I work and whether I feel like a good fit for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

My areas of specialism

I have particular experience working with issues around gender and sexuality, with LGBTQIAP+ clients, with clients who practise non-monogamy, polyamory, and BDSM, and with clients who are sex workers. I also have a particular interest in working with people experiencing climate anxiety and grief.

My qualifications and training

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton. I have also trained in suicide prevention, working with people who self-harm, those experiencing domestic abuse, alcohol and substance misuse, and trauma.

I have completed specialist training in working with autistic and other neurodivergent people and in issues specifically relating to LGBTQIAP+, polyamorous, non-monogamous and BDSM practising clients.

I also hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision from the University of Derby which enables me to provide supervision and support to other therapists in their practice.

My experience

I have 10 years of experience working therapeutically in a range of settings including in schools, colleges, in the NHS and in community settings, and with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, disordered eating, relationship difficulties, chronic health issues, and problems at work or in education. I also supervise other therapists and facilitate local peer support groups for the LGBTQ+ community (instagram.com/dykepeersupport) and for people to share feelings around the climate crisis (climatecafebrighton.org).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
