About me

Thank you for viewing my profile. I practice from my own counselling room at The Therapy Centre in Norwich NR6, where free parking is available on site.

I also offer online sessions via Zoom and also offer telephone counselling.

I am an Integrative Counsellor, holding the Diploma, Advanced Diploma, and have a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As a Registered Member of BACP, I am required to attend regular supervision and have regular Continued Professional Development, as well as practising within their Ethical Framework.

I have worked in social care settings with children and families over 25 years. I have experience of working in the public, voluntary and private sectors. I have worked in therapeutic settings and was a volunteer counsellor at St.Barnabas Counselling Centre, a low cost Counselling Centre in Norwich for many years, where I benefit from group supervision, regular community meetings and training sessions.

I have experience of working with people who are facing difficult life experiences including a wide range of issues such as attachment difficulties, fostering and adoption, trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties, parenting issues, stress, low self-confidence or self-esteem, rape and sexual abuse, eating disorders, depression and anxiety, divorce and separation, addictions and substance abuse, stress; as well as those who are coping with bereavement and loss, family problems, and work-related stress or confidence issues.

As part of my training, I was required to have my own extensive personal therapy, which I believe is essential to being a safe and effective therapist. My own experiences as a client have allowed me to value the importance of counselling. I believe that having a safe space to talk through your issues, to feel accepted and not judged, can be invaluable.

I offer a safe, nurturing and non-judgemental counselling relationship. I work with clients to explore the issues that bring them to counselling, and make them feel unhappy, unsatisfied or overwhelmed; exploring and working towards understanding these issues, and their responses to them. Our unhappiness may be triggered by any number of things beyond our control, but we can change how we think and the views we hold, through increased self-awareness. Therapy can help us to make changes or help us come to terms with situations in our lives, past and present - leading to more positive outcomes. Through healing from past experiences and current difficulties, and learning effective coping strategies, we have the potential to develop more meaningful and healthy relationships and create a more enriching and fulfilling life.

Training, qualifications & experience

BSc (Hons)Integrative Counselling (Matrix & Middlesex University)
Advance Diploma Integrative Counselling (Matrix & Middlesex University)
Diploma in Integrative counselling (Matrix & Middlesex University)
Certificate in Couples Counselling
Certificate of Study in Exploration of the Counselling Process

I have attended numerous training courses, such as on Self Harm, Attachment, Compassion Focused Therapy, Designated Safeguarding Lead Training, Bereavement, Solution Focused Therapy, and Suicide.

Integrative counselling training takes the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. Each person needs to be considered as an individual, and counselling techniques must be tailored to their needs and personal circumstances. It lends from the schools of relational, psychodynamic and behavioural approaches to counselling, providing a rounded training - believing that no one theory holds the answer. It provides me with the ability to respond to your individual needs and what brings you for counselling, essentially tailoring your counselling to you, and not you to the therapy. My approach is firmly based on the importance of the relationship between the client and the counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
