About me

Do you need help and support sorting yourself out? I offer counselling to adults using the 'Person-Centered' approach. This form of counselling is safe, comfortable and highly effective. I also have considerable understanding of CBT, Mindfulness based therapy and existential therapy.

For counselling to work well you must be at ease with your therapist so I aim to provide a safe and confidential space where we can explore and work through any problems you bring. My job is to help you feel comfortable and safe while you tell me what your concerns are. We also talk through with you what you want from your counselling

The first session is a chance for me to explain how I work and to answer any questions you may have. If you find the first session helpful we can arrange further sessions. I recommend we meet on a weekly basis, at least for the first month. Sometimes one or two session is all you will need. Sometimes longer is helpful. My sessions are client led. The sessions can be booked one at a time. There is no need for you to feel committed to further sessions further ahead than the next week!

I also offer 'single session counselling' ; see my website for more information about this.

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor with a Higher Professional Diploma in Humanistic Counselling (with distinction). I regularly attend training courses to update my professional knowledge and skills. I have worked with a wide range of clients and have completed over 650 hours of counselling work.

I am supervised by an experienced BACP registered supervisor.

I have worked for a bereavement agency for several years and also a charity providing counselling for carers. Alongside these I have an established private practice and worked with clients on a wide range of issues.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
