About me

Thank you for visiting  my Profile page. My name is Amanda or Mandy Williams, and I provide Humanistic, Trauma-Informed, Personal Counselling for Adults, and also Relationship Counselling for Couples and small Groups.

In Personal Counselling, each session is guided by your individual needs using a Trauma-informed approach. I work safely and ethically and we collaborate on the what's important to you together.

I provide  a safe, therapeutic  environment, where you can  be heard   and explore  your thoughts without judgement. This can help you identify potential challenges and overcome them by moving  towards  change.

In Couples Therapy I provide a free 20 minute introductory call. this is simply to take a few details and discuss how we will work together. We then have one joint  Couples Counselling session together, followed by a personal counselling session each, before resuming couples counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Humanistic Counselling BA (Hons) Level Six.
  • MBACP (ACCRED). NCIP (Accred)
  • Working In Sexual Violence Settings
  • Advanced Training In Couples Therapy

I have extensive experience of working within the field of childhood and adult sexual violence and trauma. This extends to domestic abuse, coercive, controlling and unhealthy relationships, loss and bereavement and other traumatic experiences.

Childhood and adult traumas affect self-esteem and self-confidence and can lead to lifelong effects as people struggle to cope alone. This can result in many negative effects, including feelings of social anxiety, depression and addictions to name just a few, and all of which can affect our relationships with others.

My client groups include working with people from the NHS, EAP, Organisations,  Charities and the Private sector.

As an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)  I abide by the ethical code of The BACP.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

DBS check info

In England and Wales, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly known as CRB) carry out criminal records checks for individuals working with vulnerable groups, such as children. To find out more, visit gov.uk , or contact this professional directly

Online Therapy is particularly convenient for people with mobility issues. This is important as the counselling room has stairs. I do not provide home visits at present but I am hoping to improve accessibility for face to face counselling shortly.
