These are stressful times when nobody knows, for sure, what the outcome will be. And this is what people with anxiety experience, day to day, even without a pandemic. To talk about how anxiety features in your life, when you first noticed it and how it can sabotage your wellbeing can be extremely liberating.....it's facing it head on.....looking at it squarely in the face and declaring that anxiety is not welcome in your life anymore! And then we find, together, different ways of managing it so that you are in charge not your anxiety.

I offer short and long term counselling and a safe space in which you can feel comfortable to talk freely about your experiences without feeling judged or told what to do because YOU are the expert in your own life.
I am essentially a humanistic integrative counsellor, drawing on the person centred model to inform my work but also use some Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, NLP theoretical approaches, as appropriate. All can contribute to a greater understanding of the self, past and present, which, in turn, can give insight into present thinking, feeling and resultant behaviours which maybe disrupting well-being. It is not my place to tell you what to do or how to live your life - I am more interested in exploring, together, areas which may be presently causing you discomfort or angst so that you can then be in a position of having choice. And just the discovery and realisation of there being a choice is, in itself, empowering.

Training, qualifications & experience
I hold the CPCAB Level 5 in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Level 4,3 & 2 Diplomas in Therapeutic Counselling and am currently working towards my Accreditation as a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy and am on the Association's register. My membership of the BACP ensures that I uphold the Association’s ethical framework in working safely with you as does attending regular supervision. I also hold a DBS certificate and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
My background is in body work and I am ITEC qualified in therapeutic massage, Indian head massage and reflexology. I hold certificates in Thai Foot massage, auricular therapy and hot stone massage. I am also a Reiki Master. I embrace several teachings from Buddhism such as loving kindness, compassion and acceptance and regularly practise meditation and mindfulness in my own life.
My interest in counselling came not only from my own personal experience of working with a really effective counsellor but also as a natural progression from the bodywork I was practising approximately 20 years ago. I found that I could no longer ignore the mind/body connection from a pathological viewpoint as, fundamentally, our physical health management is so very dependent on our mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being. For me, each cannot be viewed as operating in isolation and a more holisitic approach seems to be the key – treating the human being as a ‘whole’ not just the sum total of separate parts. The emphasis, however, is on the ‘being’ – how we view and experience the world individually and together, together with our own unique place in it. I am not you and you are not me but by working closely together in a warm, safe, confidential place where you can just be yourself, we can embark on a journey of self discovery.

Initial consultation by phone is FREE followed by a mutually agreeable half hour FREE ‘face to face’ session. This time together will provide an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for you to talk more. Once we have established that we feel we can work together and what it is exactly that's troubling you, the first session is then scheduled when a more in depth assessment is carried out. This includes establishing just what you want to achieve by entering into therapy. This session and subsequent sessions will be £40 per hour. Cancellation, without 24hr notice, will be charged at the full fee. I do not charge for holidays but would appreciate advance notice and I will do the same regarding my own holidays.
