About me

Hi. My name is Amanda and I am a fully qualified and experienced professional integrative Counsellor.

I work with people going through challenging times in their lives.  The focus of our work will be helping you to understand yourself better and to find more constructive ways to deal with the important issues and/or relationships in your life.  I offer short-term and long-term counselling to clients who are seeking a confidential and safe space to explore your difficulties where you will be listened to with acceptance and kindness.  I am also DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked.

Sometimes we try to think our way out of a problem and, at other times, we are overwhelmed with feelings and fears.  By understanding and experiencing these in a safe environment we can grow and develop through an integrative process.  My approach is tailored to each client's individual needs and, by working together, we can affect change and healing in addition to developing skills to regulate emotions.

I work narratively and sometimes creatively through art and writing as this can be an influential means of guidance and transformation.

Choosing a Counsellor can be a daunting task, especially so when highly distressed and in need of urgent help.  I am trained to evaluate and use different therapeutic models and can, therefore, offer the most appropriate service to each client.  I welcome clients regardless of sexual orientation, ethnic origin or spiritual beliefs.

I have previously worked in a residential addictions rehabilitation centre and has involved working with clients from all walks of life.  Much of my work here was working with clients with presenting mental health issues alongside addiction.  Together we explore underlying issues which can lead to mental ill health and addiction together with patterns in relationships and current behaviour.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
