About me

I offer counselling sessions online using Zoom, or telephone and face to face within your home, which offers you greater flexibility when booking counselling with me, as you do not have to travel to see me and can have sessions at times to suit you. I am very flexible and offer various days and times to suit your needs.

My name is Amanda and I am an integrative counsellor/therapist, with an underpinning of person centred approach. This means I work with you and integrate counselling skills dependant on what you bring to therapy. Every person is individual, so I tailor my practice to your needs. I am a highly qualified registered member of the BACP, (my registration logo can be seen further down) I offer counselling to people aged 16 and over.

I understand coming into counselling can be very daunting. I offer a warm, caring, non judgemental and relaxed environment to help ease you into counselling, working with you as you know yourself better than anyone. Trust is built to enable a good working relationship and you choose what you want to talk about.

The whole process of counselling starts with you contacting me either by email, or telephone, explaining why you want to enter counselling at this time.  We can discuss what you would like to gain from counselling and talk about how we can work together effectively.  As I work online or telephone it is important that we both have a safe, confidential space to work from, which is quiet and free from others, as your time is important.

I usually work with clients once a week for a 50 minutes session. This can either be pre-arranged on a weekly basis at the same time/day each week or if more convenient to your lifestyle we can confirm each week, for the following week. I also see clients fortnightly or monthly if this suits you. It has been proven that weekly sessions are more beneficial to build trust within our therapeutic relationship initially, but understand this is not always possible. I see clients short or long term dependant on client needs. I offer concessions, please feel free to ask before booking.

I have vast experience of working with clients who have mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety. I specialise in mental health disorders and the impact this can have on yourself, relationships and work.

The issues associated with mental health that I work with include:

  • Relationship problems, including divorce, breakdown in communication with family members or friends, and domestic violence.
  • Childhood trauma, bad/neglectful experiences which affect adult life.
  • Life changes such as adult children leaving home, retirement, change of location etc.
  • Experiencing anxiety, a lack of motivation, not feeling connected to your life.
  • Bereavement and loss, this could include loss of job, identity, lack of purpose or the death of someone close to you or missing someone who was a huge part of your life.
  • Diagnosed with or someone close to you diagnosed with a disability/health condition. Help with coming to terms with this.
  • Perimenopausal/menopausal symptoms such as brain fog, anxiety, irritability etc.
  • Pregnancy difficulties and or birth trauma
  • I am disability confident and work with diagnosed/undiagnosed ADHD/ASD people

(This list is not exhaustive please ask if your reason for coming into counselling is not listed).

I am happy to work with people from all different backgrounds, gender, sexuality, and or disabilities.

So how can I work with you? I can aid you in improving your mood and help you to deal with any issues you may be having now or dealing with your past experiences. The counselling may involve a specific reason you have chosen to enter counselling or it can be more general long term psychotherapy which will look at more aspects of your life. This in turn will create a life that you are more comfortable and happier in. It will improve your relationship with yourself and others. You can have the space and freedom to talk about anything without judgement. If you are open to counselling then you can gain insight into yourself, entering counselling is not easy, but the rewards from this are lifelong

Talking to a professional enables you to talk freely about your issues, without judgement. We often find it difficult to share our innermost thoughts and feelings with the people close to us, as we don’t want to upset or hurt them. I can offer you someone to talk to without that fear.

If you feel having counselling with me is something that you may be interested in. You can contact me by email in the first instance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

As well as continuing professional development (CPD) which all counsellors who are members of a professional body have to undertake each year, I believe in life long learning. I feel it is important to keep up to date, and learn as much as I can, so that I can offer you the best service possible.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
