About me

Walking Therapy

‘Research shows that getting outside in nature has many mental health benefits as well. Walking has been proven effective in reducing anxiety and depression, and there is further evidence that walking in nature improves those results even further. That's because different parts of our brain activate in nature.’ 31 Oct 2018

Mental Health Benefits of Getting Outside | UNC Health Talk

We are launching our new Walking Therapy Service as part of our Stay Safe Campaign.

Are you stuck alone at home feeling isolated and anxious?

Do you need some space and time outside amongst beautiful views to clear you mind and rejuvinate your soul?

Do you need to talk to someone outside of your family/friendship circle who can offer gentle and supportive company to get things clearer in your mind?

Is Lockdown with your family feeling overwhelming and you yearn for some reprieve?

Please join us in the launch of our Walking and Talking Therapy as part of the Stay Sane Campaign here on the beautiful Hunstanton coastline.  Enjoy gentle exercise and beautiful views and the Company of one of our fully qualified and experienced Therapists here at Harley St. Psychotherapy.

We will meet at an agreed point and walk for an hour along the beaches, dunes and gardens of Hunstanton.  Nature and exercise go hand in hand with therapy covering all issues concerning your mental health.  We will work on your anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, communication and relationships and all aspects which may have arisen due to the current Corona Virus Pandemic.  We will be observing all the rules of social distancing so that we can stay safe whilst staying sane during this period and beyond.

Group Walking Therapy

We will be starting Therapeutic Walking Groups of 6.

these walks will be structured and finish with a group discussion. It will be an opportunity for you to meet like minded people who are also struggling in some way. Group Walking reduces the cost of therapy and our initial fee per walk will be £20 per person. We will walk for 1 hour 15-30 minutes at a leisurely pace taking lots of rest and reflection stops. To register your interest please email amandajgoss@gmail.com.

For an initial discussion and plan, please contact us and we can get your therapy started and give you some tools to cope with the current Lockdown and beyond.

We are also offering concessionary rates for people in financial difficulty due to the currently situation.

Due to the current situation with Corona Virus, are currently conducting sessions via Skype, FaceTime WhatsApp and Telephone. We can help you set this up and if you feel nervous we are available to talk you through it first and we will try a first session and take it from there.

Trying to live with any kind of anxiety, depression, stress or relationship issue is not only painful but also isolating. Having that burden lifted can enable you to fully live your life.

After going through several difficult issues of my own I finally sought the help of a Therapist. It was a life changing experience for me, and one which has enabled me to lead a happier and more fulfilled life. I was very nervous about seeking counselling and fortunately I found an excellent Counsellor with whom I felt comfortable. I do therefore understand how important it is to find a Therapist with whom you feel completely at ease, so feel free to call me for an informal chat. Then if required, we can book a first session together to see how we get on and plan some more sessions. If at the end of that session for any reason you or I feel you would be better suited to a different Counsellor I will refer you to an appropriate member of the Harley St Psychotherapy Team. it is important to find the right Therapist for you so please give me a call and we can take it from there.

I am a Psychotherapist, Counsellor and counselling Supervisor and worked in private practice in Harley Street, Central London and Wimpole Street. As well as my London practice, I also run a private practice in Kings Lynn and Hunstanton in Norfolk. I developed Harley St Psychotherapy as the demand for good quality highly experienced Psychotherapists in Norfolk was rising. We are a team of counsellors who provide a service which covers all topics including Child Therapy; Adolescent/Young Person Counselling, Family Therapy, CBT, Couples Counselling, Student Counsellors at concessionary rates and 1-1 Psychotherapy as well as specialist counsellors who cover Addiction, Eating Disorders and Sexual Abuse and Bereavement.

I worked for Mind as a Lead High Intensity Counsellor before starting my own practice. I hold a Masters Degree in Counselling and I am a registered member of (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. (Members of the public can now choose a counsellor or psychotherapist belonging to the BACP register approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care). Our team here are all registered members of BACP.

I work to BACP's ethical framework and code of practice. I work alongside companies in London working with Nurses, Borough Councils, The Benjamin Foundation, Insignia Health, and others, as well as taking referrals from both state and private high schools and doctors surgeries, local councils and charitable organisations. I am a qualified Focus Oriented Psychotherapist, and Focusing Trainer. I also work as an Agony Aunt/Columnist covering mental health issues. I regularly undertake training to keep up to date with developments within psychotherapy. I offer both one to one and couples counselling.

My Background

My background is varied and has furnished me with extensive insight into the stresses and strains of different working environments. I spent ten years working in media; I have worked with people from all walks of life from celebrities to business men and women, farmers, solicitors, teachers, people from all generations. I work within the corporate sector, public sector and for various charities, schools and colleges.

I work with young people and I am currently taking referrals from High Schools. We have two very experienced Child Therapy and Adolescent Counsellors working here at HST. Having worked as an Employment Support Officer for 16-18 year olds and as a University Counsellor, I am familiar with the pressures that this age group encounter. I have worked extensively with young people to help them gain confidence and motivation and with training or employment. I work with other companies providing Counselling for employees.

I hold counselling, psychotherapy and focusing sessions at my comfortable, quiet consulting rooms in Harley Street and Wimpole Street, London, St. Ann's Street in Kings Lynn, and the coastal town of Hunstanton, Norfolk. The sessions will be for a duration of 50 minutes. Couples sessions maybe slightly longer.

I also offer Skype Counselling which is becoming more and more popular. Perhaps you travel often or cannot get into Central London, or maybe it is difficult for you to fit the travel time into your busy week. Skype sessions are as effective as face to face counselling and quick and easy to set up. Contact me for details and we can try a first session to see if you are comfortable with it before we plan more sessions. Unfortunately, due to the current demand in Norfolk, face to face sessions in London is on hold.
Our time together will be spent exploring the issues that you bring in a discreet, confidential, safe and supporting environment.

Together we will work on the issues which are affecting your life to find a way for you to deal with what is going on for you, and help you to resolve them so that you can feel happier and more at ease. I understand that it can be very difficult to talk about certain issues and I will try to help you feel as comfortable with this as is possible.

If you are a couple encountering difficulties within your relationship, then I will help you to find a way to communicate with each other and understand each other without it degenerating into age-old arguments. We will work on what is going wrong between you and try to find a mutually agreeable solution.

If you would like more information please don't hesitate to call me. I am very happy to have a chat on the phone and answer any questions you may have before we make the appointment. We can then arrange a first session, at the end of which you and I can decide if we will carry on. I look forward to meeting you. If you would like to see some testimonials, these can be found on my website www.harleysttherapy.com. You will also find details of our other Therapists on the site.

8 Week Focusing Stress Buster
If you are suffering from any kind of stress, be it work-place stress or overwhelm, we will address the issues using a eight week series of Focusing sessions. See below for more details of Focusing. Call me for more information.

I offer Skype counselling for clients abroad, please contact me via email for details.

We also offer Specialist Counselling in Addiction, Eating Disorders, Sexual Abuse, Child/Adolescent and Young Persons Counselling.

Focusing is a safe way of being with an experience, even one which is disturbing. It is an ability that most of us have and can develop; a way of listening to our subtle inner feelings. It is a way of accessing what we know but are maybe not aware of; our own kind of truth. When we do this, what we find is often new, surprising, fresh and extremely satisfying and even when we are being with the most terrible feelings in a focusing way, it can actually feel good.

If we are Focusing with a problem or difficulty, it may start to shift by itself in a direction that we haven’t expected.  It can provide us with answers/solutions to difficulties. Focusing can be learned so that it can be used in everyday life to help us find an easier way of being with a problem, or even a solution to it. It can be used to help make difficult decisions. It is a useful aid to stress relief and personal development and can help you to feel calmer, happier and generally more at peace.

How I work
I provide one to one focusing sessions where we can either look at a particular issue that is bothering you, or use it as a means of gaining clarity and perspective.

I also provide focusing training so that you can use the technique by yourself, or with a partner, once you have completed your course of sessions.

Focusing sessions last 45 minutes and I see clients for focusing once a week for an agreed period. Please contact me for more details.

I meet with people from all walks of life and different backgrounds, from celebrities to teachers, farmers, solicitors, mums, businessmen and women.

Focusing Stress Buster
There are more and more instances where stress and/or mental health issues such as depression and anxiety are affecting the workplace. Companies are losing money due to staff sickness when people are signed off with stress or depression. I was aware that this was becoming more and more of an issue, and having experienced inability to work through stress some years before, I wanted to look into a way to reduce stress in the workplace. This resulted in my Masters dissertation: ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace: An investigation into the benefits of using Focusing techniques to address stress and as an aid to personal and professional well-being and development’ (Goss, A. 03/2012).

I carried out a series of weekly focusing sessions with staff and management of a leading mental health organisation. The study concluded that if an individual takes part in regular focusing sessions, their stress levels will lessen.

It also highlighted that focusing was also a form of personal development.  Participants in the study reported significant and sometimes life changing insights after a series of focusing sessions. Most participants had no knowledge or experience of focusing or counselling prior to the study, but reported that they found it easy to understand and take part in.

I provide Focusing Stress-Busting Sessions either at my consulting room or in-house on a six weekly session basis. Please contact me for further details and prices for you or your staff members.

Further information

Like many of us I have had to deal with some difficulties in my life. After many years searching for a fulfilling career in the helping profession, I trained as a Psychotherapist and I love the job that I do, particularly as I have been on the receiving end of therapy and I know that it can be life changing. Lots of us just need someone neutral to talk to who will not judge us and who will have great empathy for what we are going through.

Lots of us need help to come to terms with what we have been through in life and help us find a way to lead a happier and more fulfilled life. Perhaps you have a particular issue or perhaps you are not quite sure yet what is making life difficult for you. If you have any concerns that you would like me to answer with regards to counselling/psychotherapy I would be happy to answer them for you if I can. What I always suggest is that we have a first session to see how we get on. If you feel that the session went well and you are comfortable with me we can arrange further sessions.

If, for any reason, you don't feel that it's quite right for you, then another member of our team maybe more suitable, or perhaps another avenue you might explore. It's so important for you to feel totally at ease so that we can work together on the issues. Please feel free to call me or email me and I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting you too.
