Amanda Gill - PPF Counselling (Past, Present, Future)
My name is Amanda and I am a BACP registered counsellor. I am currently employed by Barnardos and work with children and adolescents as a school based counsellor in the Vale of Glamorgan. I also counsel adults through Cardiff Mind and my private practice.
I am therefore available to work with children aged 11 to 18 and adults.
We continually make decisions about which route/direction we should take. I always seemed to take the rocky road which often left me feeling battered and bruised instead of a much kinder, direct route which would have left me motivated and inspired.
I reached a cross road in my life which left me questioning ‘what am I doing wrong’. So I sought counselling ‘to better understand myself’.
I learned to develop my own levels of self-awareness which enabled me to challenge my past life, the present moment and reflect on my future. I gained new insights and perspectives about who I was, how I related to the world and how this influenced my functioning in life. I learned newfound skills and techniques which allowed me to be kind to myself and discover my authentic self. I set small, medium and long term goals which made me become more positive, confident and enabled me to focus on my future.
We are all ‘unique’ and have our own unique story and reasons for seeking assistance. I would be privileged to learn about your story and honoured to be given the opportunity to join you on your journey to find peace, purpose and happiness.
Counselling isn't for everyone but it could be for you just like it was for me so what do you have to lose?
About me as a counsellor
I offer counselling on a one to one basis in a comfortable room with adequate parking facilities.
I use a Humanistic Existential approach, adopting a holistic approach to human existence. Attention is given to creativity, free will and positive human potential and using self-exploration encourages us to view ourselves as a ‘whole person’. Heightening our self-awareness and utilising Mindfulness techniques can help us change our state of mind and behaviour.
A further approach I use is CBT, which focuses on the development of personal coping strategies, targeting and solving current problems and changing unhelpful patterns in cognitions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes), behaviours, and emotions.
I sometimes utilise Gestalt therapy focusing on the here and now, Solution Focussed therapy which looks at solutions and motivation to change a particular behaviour and weighing up change versus no change.
Each unique story needs a unique ‘package’ designed especially for you ‘the expert’ and the type of therapy used will be discussed with you, to establish the type of counselling you require, with no obligation.
The foundation of our work will be our ‘working relationship’ and working together as ‘equals’ I can offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment, where you can openly explore your difficulties, discover who you are and unlock your full potential. I will work closely with you to overcome life's uncertainties, unblock any fears, uncover triggers that cause your unhappiness, help you make links to understand where you are and to enhance your own self-awareness. In doing this, you can decide whether you need to make changes and if so set goals to make those changes and plan your future.
