About me

I am a experienced Counsellor, offering a professional service with competitive rates. Identifying if you are choosing the right Counsellor, can be really difficult to do in an half hour consultation; even in a full fifty minute session this could be challenging. I offer a consultation/assessment over two sessions which allows enough space to a) share your concerns without feeling rushed and b) decide if I am the right Counsellor for you. Whatever you are feeling, it hasn't developed overnight, it is probably be hard to talk about and it might be the first time that you have shared this with someone else. By offering a two session consultation you have the space to talk, share some of your concerns and get a real sense of working with me.

I began my journey as a Counsellor at Brockenhurst College in 2007. Here I studied my level 1,2,and 3 counselling certificates. I then spent three years volunteer counselling at E.D.A.S. (Essential Drug and Alcohol Services) in both their Bournemouth and Poole offices and completed the level 2 certificate in Addiction.

My professional qualifications include: Certificate in Counselling Supervision, Diploma in Integrative Counselling, Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Diploma in Life Coaching, Relate Certificate in Family Counselling and a Foundation degree in Counselling.
As a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (B.A.C.P), I have had to take a proficiency exam and be registered: my registration number is 093939.

I have counselled at the B.C.H.A (Bournemouth Churches Housing Association) in Boscombe and more recently I have worked for 'Together' - a national mental health charity. Currently I work in my own private practice in Winton, Bournemouth.

Since September 2015 I have worked in partnership with the YMCA Bournemouth. I have in conjunction with their housing department, created their current counselling service. I am currently their Counselling Lead. I lead a team of over thirty students, qualified Counsellors and staff counsellors. The service offers counselling to all of their clients, members of staff and the BCP community. Through the YMCA Bournemouth I offer clinical supervision to various local charities.

I have a current D.B.S (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate and am fully insured. All certificates are available to view on request.

Continuing professional development is also an important part of ensuring that I keep up to date and learn new skills.                                                                            I have attended an introduction to working with sexual issues and an eating disorders workshop. I have taken and completed a working with children and young people course 2018.  In 2020 I obtained CPD in online and telephone counselling. I have recently completed CPD in Compassion Focused Therapy 2023. I look to complete CPD in Acceptance and Commitment therapy 2024.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
