About me

My main aim in counselling is to provide you with a safe, warm and private space to talk and be heard non-judgmentally and with compassion. I believe in working collaborative to understand how we have come to perceive our experiences of the world and the effect this has had upon us. All experiences are valid and our responses to these are understandable. Talking therapy can help to bring about a level of awareness, understanding, and often an opportunity to challenge how we perceive and/ or respond to these experiences if we would wish to.

I approach counselling from an integrative approach that incorporates psychodynamic therapy, person-centred, CBT, mindfulness and existentialism. However, I always approach therapy in a manner that best suits you and whatever experience you may bringing. The approach will not define the therapy.

For those that it may interest, I also work creatively in counselling and supervision practice. This includes using tools like clay, sandtray, mixed media, etc. I believe that at times words alone are not enough to externalise what we are really trying to communicate to ourselves and others, and these tools can help.

Ultimately, no one really wants to suffer and we all want to be happy and my aim is to help you on your journey towards that.

I offer short-term therapy (6-8 sessions) to longer, open-ended therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative) which means I am qualified to work as a counsellor and assist you with any issues that may be troubling you.

In addition to working as qualified counsellor I also hold a Foundation Degree in Counselling and have undertaken Cruse Bereavement training. I hold a second degree in Psychology with First Class Honours, and I am currently studying a Masters in Psychology, as well as Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play. I have taught Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 counselling to trainee counsellors.

As well as having experience working with adults, I have additional experience working with children from the ages of 5 and up. I have been working in schools for the past nine years and specialise in therapeutic play using tools like sandtray, clay, mixed medias, etc. Children need more than talking therapy and therapeutic play gives them an opportunity to express in a medium that suits them better. I also bring this practice with my adult work, working creatively with similar tools.

I have a special interest in supporting those that have been on the receiving end of those with Narcissism, as well as those that believe they may have Narcissistic traits.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
