About me
Hello, I'm Allison, a clinical psychologist, registered with the HCPC. I am based in Haddington and Dalkeith, and also offer online sessions if this suits your circumstances better.
I worked in the NHS for 30 years, specialising in Adult Mental Health and undertaking specialist training in this field.
There may be particular issues you wish to focus on such as depression, the impact of trauma, or difficulties in relationships. Or it may be that you are not sure what the "issue" is but believe that you could benefit from support in helping you to gain a better understanding of things and improve your wellbeing.
I would be pleased to hear from you if you would like to have a no obligation conversation about the possibility of therapy, to consider how we might work together.
Training, qualifications & experience
As part of my professional training in clinical psychology I trained in CBT. During my career I also trained as a group analytic psychotherapist and completed specialist post qualification training in cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) and eye movement desensitisation & reprocessing (EMDR). CAT is a integrative therapy, integrating CBT and psychoanalytic ideas. EMDR is helpful in addressing the impact of traumatic or emotionally powerful experiences.
Whilst as a clinical psychologist I am trained in understanding the impact of our experiences across the lifespan, I have specialised in working in the field of Adult Mental Health, and worked as a consultant psychologist in the field for the NHS until I left there in 2020 and moved into independent practice.
I consider that my training and experience have equipped me to adapt and integrate different approaches to suit each individual person's needs.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
