A little bit about me.....
Hello, my name is Allison and I am a Counsellor, Wife and Mother and I have been happily married for 25 years have two children aged 14 & 21 years.I believe that the combination of my life experience and my professional qualifications and training make me a good Counsellor, who is able to listen, empathise and understand.
I am an Integrative Person Centered Counsellor and am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists. (MBACP) I work with Adults on a 1:1 basis but I also work with Couples and Young People aged 15 and over. I hold a current DBS Certificate which enables me to work with students in schools but also in my Private Practice.
Specialist Areas of Work:
I work with Adults and Young People experiencing Stress: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic attacks and Depression .
I support those experiencing Stress & Anxiety, helping them to live calmer, more contented lives; I work with those suffering with Depression, helping them find a sense of value, meaning and purpose.
When working with Couples, I am able to take an objective overview of the situation, and am able to listen to each individual and I am able to offer strategies to reduce tension and improve communication, love and passion!
What is Counselling about?
When life hits hard we sometimes need somewhere to go and someone to talk to who can help us make sense of it all. Person Centered counselling provides you with exactly that. It provides a safe place for you to talk, without fear, judgement or bias. It allows you the time to safely explore issues which you may have not up until this point, felt like looking at and can help you find a positive way of moving forwards.
The Core Conditions of Person Centered Therapy are: Acceptance, Empathy and Unconditional Respect, regardless of your situation. It is these basic conditions that allow the two of us to build a positive therapeutic relationship, with confidentiality being central to all that it is being shared.
What can I expect to happen in my first session?
All counselling sessions are 1 hour in length but the first may be slightly longer as I like to take the time to get to know you and understand what help you are looking for and how I might be able to help you.
It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have and for us to get a better sense of one another. It is really important for both of us feel comfortable in speaking with one another, as the therapy is only effective if you feel comfortable in sharing your concerns.
When & How can I make payment?
Payment should be made in cash at the end of each session. Receipts can be provided.
Training, qualifications & experience
- Cert HE Teaching, Learning & Mentoring
- Business Administration
- Advanced Diploma in Professional Counselling
- Registered Member of BACP. - MBACP
I have many years of experience working in Secondary schools with students aged from 11-15years. This experience has given me a great insight and understanding of the Social & Emotional well-being of young people. Although school can be a great place of community, achievement and fun, for others, it can be very daunting and a place where they feel an extreme amount of pressure. It can very frightening for some young people and can cause many to experience Anxiety.
As a trained Counsellor I am able to help young people address their fears and grow in self-confidence.
I currently undertake work within two Secondary schools via an Agency but I also work with young people in my Private Practice.
My experience with young people has also been consolidated by the many years that I undertook as a voluntary Youth Worker.
I am also an experienced Pastoral Worker. I have worked alongside local clergy supporting families within our community.
