Blue Sky CBT is a Psychological Therapy Service based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Face to face therapy sessions take place in East Belfast, whilst remote sessions are available to clients based anywhere in the UK and Ireland via Skype and Zoom.
Blue Sky CBT was founded by Alison Rankin who has 10 years experience in the counselling and psychological therapies profession and is passionate about supporting clients to enable then to overcome mental health problems and facilitate emotional wellbeing. Alison is an accredited CBT counsellor and psychotherapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Training, qualifications & experience
I adopt a holistic and person centred approach to psychological health and emotional wellbeing. I have always been curious about the importance of the mind-body connection in mental health and wellbeing and supporting a healthy connection and alliance between mind and body is an integral part of how I work therapeutically. My core modality is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I also integrate a number of third wave evidence based cognitive behavioural therapies and specialist psychological therapies including compassion focused therapy, mindfulness and meditation practices and yoga-enhanced CBT.
I work collaboratively with clients to enable them to break the vicious cycle of negative thinking, feeling and behaving through Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy. I have completed training in the UK, Ireland and America and I continue to train and upskill myself in evidence based psychotherapies to offer my clients the psychological support they need to feel better and effectively address the problems they are experiencing in their lives. My work is supported with regular clinical supervision.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

During your assessment session, you will be provided with a confidential and caring space where you can discuss the challenges you’re facing, and receive an assessment of the problem.
From this, a bespoke CBT treatment plan will be created, which will usually consist of between 6 and 20 sessions, depending on your goals, of 50 minutes each.
During your CBT therapy sessions, you and your therapist will:
- Identify thought processes and behaviours that contribute to and exacerbate your issues
- Work together to understand the problems you’re facing
- Explore tools of recovery and treatment for you to use in everyday life
- Implement the skills you need to challenge unhelpful patterns in both thoughts and actions
- Undergo experiments to test negative and damaging beliefs and behaviours
- Help you to understand and manage difficult emotions
- Work together to ensure you’re equipped with the tools you need to manage relapse
