About me

At some point in our lives we all need a helping hand, particularly if one is feeling anxious or depressed. I offer a safe and confidential environment to support you and identify areas in your life that may be causing you difficulties.A key part of my work is the nature and quality of the relationship. I understand that everyone is unique, and so I work in different ways to encourage you to develop greater insight, awareness, and understanding of why problems have arisen and how change can happen. Our relationship is built on trust.

I am a fully accredited Psycho-dynamically trained therapist with a MA in Contemporary Therapeutic Studies. This enables me to incorporate elements of person-centered, and cognitive behavioural therapies, to work with both conscious and unconscious processes.

Struggling with emotional issues, can impact on the way we move forward, which can cause us to feel frustrated, frightened and apprehensive. Working together we can explore both past and present experiences that may be impacting on your life now. With understanding and empathy we can discover and develop more beneficial coping strategies which may also help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression and help you feel calmer about managing your situation.

All of our work together will be confidential. Please feel free to contact me on the number stated to have an informal chat, and make the first step into feeling better.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Masters degree in Contemporary Therapeutic Counselling from the University of Hertfordshire and am an Accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP)

I have extensive experience of working with vulnerable adults and young people. Alongside my established private practice, I work for MIND, a mental health charity offering a wide variety of counselling services. I also run groups for clients that may be experiencing depression or anxiety or those who have experienced a bereavement. Furthermore, I have experience of working with young people both in a school environment and a clinical setting.

I have trained at the Anna Freud Centre in Brief Intervention Counselling which focuses on key relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
