About me

What is counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy where a trained therapist will help you to understand your emotions, thoughts and behaviours. It can help you to be more self-aware and awareness of others. Counselling can help you with bad habits and repeated patterns of behaviour. You can be helped to understand your emotions and empower you to make positive changes in your life.

Who can benefit from counselling?

Counselling is for anybody who is going through a bad time and struggling to live the life they want to live and being unable to regulate their emotions. If you have been through trauma in your life then counselling is really beneficial. Also anyone who has had a life changing event like a relationship breakup, losing a job, health diagnosis, bereavement and suffering with anxiety, depression and stress.

How I work

I understand that it can be hard to open about how you feel, especially with those closest to you, in case you feel judged or criticised. It can be hard to know where to start with “that conversation” when you are struggling. This is where counselling can help.

I offer a safe space which is non-judgemental where your feelings will be heard and understood and can be talked through at a pace that suits you. I can help to build your self-esteem and confidence and to learn coping strategies to help you with anxiety and depression.

Together we can unravel your thoughts, feelings and difficulties in a confidential and honest environment to help you make sense of things, empower you to make decisions so you have a positive outcome for your future.

I have a calm and friendly manner and will try and put you at ease from the outset. I know how hard it can be to meet someone for the first time and to feel you have to share your life story, but that isn’t the case, there is absolutely no pressure on you to talk about things until you are ready.

What to expect in your first session.

Your first session will be taken up with getting to know each other, I will explain how I work and set some professional boundaries which is to keep both of us safe.  There will be time for you to explain why you want counselling and we can set some achievable goals to work towards. There will be no pressure for you to talk about anything you aren't ready for. I can assure you that I will listen and be non-judgemental and empathic to your situation.

I offer short- and long-term therapy.

I cover all geographical areas.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
