About me

Sometimes life can get on top of you, and feels more difficult than it should. You may be feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or unable to connect fully with those around you. I will support you to work through these feelings, understanding and accepting where you are right now, and exploring what you might want to do to move forward. I provide a safe, warm and non-judgemental environment where you feel valued and heard; a supportive space where you have the opportunity to talk about your life and experiences, working through things at your own pace.

Perhaps you are struggling in your relationships or find sex difficult or painful.  As a psychosexual and relationship therapist I can support you with these issues, working with you as an individual or in relationships to develop your understanding of these issues and to make changes when needed.

My training is in person-centred counselling and I draw from a range of approaches according to individual need. My background is in social work and mental health. I have a particular interest in childhood trauma and how this can impact on us as adults.

I value clients from all sexualities, genders and relationships.  I provide a safe and welcoming space for clients however you identify.  I identify as queer / non-binary.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified psychotherapist, and relationship and psychosexual therapist.  I work with both individuals and couples on a range of issues.  I divide my time between working for the NHS and in private practice.

My original training was in person-centred counselling.  Prior to training as a counsellor I worked in social work with children and young people, and in mental health.  I also hold a doctorate (PhD) in Psychology & Women's Studies, exploring the constructed nature of young female identity.

I hold a degree in counselling and psychotherapy, as well as a post-graduate diploma in relationship and psychosexual therapy.  Since qualifying as a counsellor I have completed various CPD (professional development) courses, including courses around working with trauma, working with neurodiversity , and working with GSRD (gender, sexual & relationship diversity).  Most recently I have completed training on somatic therapeutic techniques.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I offer counselling in my flat in central Sheffield on the eighth floor. From the front entrance there is a flight of stairs to get to the lift. Access to the building via the back entrance is difficult using a wheelchair due to a steep hill.
