About me

I am a psychotherapist, counsellor and clinical supervisor. I have degrees in both psychology and counselling and a certificate in clinical supervision.

I work with an open heart and mind to meet the needs of each individual.

How counselling can help

Counselling provides a safe contained place once a week to bring your challenges, difficulties, pain & desires for change. You will gain a greater understanding of your self, your relationships, your life & your behaviour patterns. You can discover how to put boundaries in place that will assist you in building what you want in your life. You can gain a tool kit to cope with challenges, difficulties & moving forward. The process of counselling is an incremental unfolding of you developing into your best self regardless of your current situation, difficulty, pain or loss. You will experience not only being listened to but being deeply heard & have a witness to your journey of development & change. The work can be short term (a few sessions) or long term (a few years) depending on what you bring and how deeply you choose to work. Please email me with any queries you might have.

A bit about me

I have over two decades of clinical counselling experience equalling over 18,500 clinical hours. I work with youth and adults suffering with anxiety, depression, stress, sleep issues, trauma, bereavement & loss, sexuality & Gender issues. With specialisms in working with youth including gender & sexuality issues, behaviour issues, adjustment, mood & personality disorders, as well as working with families, parents and teachers, pregnant women and new mothers. Part of this is working with post-natal depression and birth trauma. I also work with Couples either to either find a way forward together to find a way to separate as smoothly as possible.

What to expect in your first counselling session

If this is your first time in therapy the first session can feel a bit odd, as it is a new & unique situation. I will do various things that will serve to put you at ease. I will discuss practicalities such as the length of the session, the amount of sessions that we may need, when & how counselling is brought to a close. I will also discuss confidentiality and record keeping. I will encourage you to be vocal  if is there is something you would prefer to do differently, or something that you want but are not getting or if you are upset or confused by anything I say or do so that I can explain further and we can work through it. By the end of the first session you will be clear on exactly how counselling works, how we are going to proceed with what you are bringing and you may also have one tool to take away with you and work with until your next appointment.

Services to Schools and Education institutions

I can be booked to do school inset days for teachers and other staff on various topics ranging from "emotional and mental self-care", "how to recognise an emotional or mental issue in a student and how to refer and to what service" to "the emotional anatomy of an SEN (special educational needs) student" and many others. I am open to topic requests from schools, colleges, other educational institutions & businesses. I can tailor inset days or workshops to any size group and to whatever time frame is required.

Trauma work & critical incident debriefing

I am a trained and experience critical incident debriefer and welcome approach by organisations who need this service.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
