I am a trained couple and individual therapist with extensive experience over the years helping clients to find a way to understand their difficulties and then considering how to manage them. Relationships are the heart of being a human and being able to relate in a more satisfying way is part of our well being. As a therapist the relationship I have with my clients is to provide a calm and steady place where we can begin to discuss what matters in confidence that I will not judge or offer advice.
I think that being able to speak freely creates a space to able to fully understand our emotions and experiences, and most important of all, ourselves.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am as an experienced therapist especially interested in how we relate to one another and ourselves and have worked with couples/individuals/groups to explore our need for connection with others. What this means is that I recognise the deep importance of relationships to our overall well being and the significance to us when this sense of belonging and being secure is rocked by life events such as depression, stress, affairs and illness.
In my work I combine the understanding relationships with more skills based approaches to enable recovery from anxiety and depression.Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is effective and offers clear steps to enable clients to take back control for themselves as it is designed to for self help and use in between therapy sessions. When working with trauma I am able to offer an evidence based treatment called EMDR.
Overall I have been working in counselling and therapy for over 25 years including 12 years in the NHS which gave more a thorough grounding in mental health. During the time with the NHS I was involved in running groups for self esteem/depression/anxiety and a couple and family therapy clinic.
