About me

Hello, I'm Alex. I am an MBACP accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with 8 years experience. Most of my work is predominantly spent with Neurodivergent individuals. As someone with lived experience of AuDHD, I understand the importance and significance of working with a Therapist who is part of the community. I understand the challenges of living in a neurotypical world and 'fitting in' with neuro-normative ways to of being.

I believe that counselling is not something we ever 'graduate' from. However, it can be an opportunity to enter into a safe space to feel heard, respected and supported to understand yourself better.

My approach to therapy is integrative, incorporating humanistic and compassion focused modalities. I believe there should not be a 'one size fits all' approach to therapy and I can adapt my way of working to suit your therapy goals. For example, some individuals may be looking for alot of direction in setting boundaries with others. Others may need a safe space to offload and understand their emotions around a specific event better.

I regularly stay well informed with mental health practice throughout regular attendance of monthly CPD. I have extended training in compassion-focused therapy and also acceptance and commitment therapy should you be interested in these particular modalities.

I have been described by clients as genuine, intuitive and warm. I always have my clients best interests at heart and we work at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I know how daunting going to therapy can feel. I actively encourage clients to bring with them any objects or activities that may help them feel more at ease. For example, I have clients who will bring their crochet activities or colouring books with them.

I have stimming aids, weighted blankets and heated blankets in my office which you are more than welcome to use.  If you have a well behaved dog and they make you feel more comfortable, bring them to therapy with you. We also don't need to sit opposite each other if this isn't comfortable for you. Sit on the floor, turn your chair around.. whatever helps you to feel more at ease is okay with me.

Although I specialize in working with neurodivergent clients. There are also other areas I have more experience working with:

  • People with highly sensitive personality traits.
  • People who have anxiety difficulties or imposter syndrome.
  • People who find themselves feeling resentful and exhausted when in the company of others.

For in person sessions, my office is based at The Enterprise Centre in Burslem.

There is free parking on site.

I also offer sessions via phone call, whatsapp text or video, should you feel more comfortable in your own safe space.

Feedback from previous clients.

"I wasn't sure about therapy at first, is it worth it, would it help etc. I can say that yes it absolutely was worth it and has helped me so much after only a few sessions but I feel that's down to Alex who I was assigned and I'm so grateful she was. Alex listens and gives brilliant advice, I feel like I can open up about anything in confidence and without fear of judgement. Our sessions are a highlight in my week and I couldn't thank or recommend her enough. Truly a lovely person"

"Alex understood all the complexities of what I had experienced and used her expertise to support me and provide me with resources to help me process it. She gets it and I knew she was the right therapist for me from Day 1. I have experienced many different therapists and therapies and I would recommend her services to anyone in need of therapy when life gets tough. There was a noticeable and recognizable improvement within me because of the work I did with her and I am beyond thankful".

"Alex is a fantastic therapist who is empathetic, caring and non-judgemental. She’s a great listener who takes sessions at my pace and helps me to see situations in different lights. I feel very comfortable talking to her and am very lucky that my first experience of counselling is with her - thank you!"

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
