About me

Hi, I'm Alena.  Whatever your reason for reaching out, I would like to offer you a warm and caring space to be yourself, to be listened to and understood.  With gentle support, I will help you make sense of the feelings, worries, hurts, losses, memories, betrayals or behaviours that are causing you distress.  We will work together to really understand what's going on for you, to look at it with compassion and perspective and review the options for a way forward.  I will value you for exactly who you are as a unique and complex individual and my aim is to help you gain a stronger sense of self that will help you increase emotional resilience and build your self-esteem.  I am accepting of all people and view it as an honour to work with people from all walks of life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience of working with stress, anxiety, panic, OCD, self-esteem, childhood neglect, bullying, sexual and domestic abuse.  My particular interest is working to reduce shame and build confidence and self-esteem with those who have had relational trauma in early life (complex PTSD).

I hold a diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society.  Outside of my private practice, I have worked for several years as a trauma-focused therapist for a charity offering counselling to survivors of domestic abuse.
