About me

Hi, I'm Alena.  Whatever your reason for reaching out, I would like to offer you a warm and caring space to be yourself, to be listened to and understood.  With gentle support, I will help you make sense of the feelings, worries, hurts, losses, memories, betrayals or behaviours that are causing you distress.  We will work together to really understand what's going on for you, to look at it with compassion and perspective and review the options for a way forward.  I will value you for exactly who you are as a unique and complex individual and my aim is to help you gain a stronger sense of self that will help you increase emotional resilience and build your self-esteem.  I am accepting of all people and view it as an honour to work with people from all walks of life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience of working with stress, anxiety, panic, OCD, self-esteem, childhood neglect, bullying, sexual and domestic abuse.  My particular interest is working to reduce shame and build confidence and self-esteem with those who have had relational trauma in early life (complex PTSD).

I hold a diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  Outside of my private practice, I have worked for several years as a trauma-focused therapist for a charity offering counselling to survivors of domestic abuse.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
