There are times in life when we may face situations that that feel stressful, confusing and overwhelming. Often we can bear these difficulties and get through them alone or with the help of family and friends. There are times however, when it may lead to more long term distress and manifest into psychological conditions like Depression, Anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress. These illnesses can affect the ability to cope and to feel at ease.
One of the most common symptoms of psychological distress is that it can make the sufferer feel isolated and alone. Often those close to you may find it difficult to understand and how to help. It is not uncommon that this can then lead to relationship difficulties. Attending for individual therapy can be an opportunity to explore, understand and work through psychological difficulties in a safe and supportive way.
Therapy is a collaborative process and together we can identify the problems and agree the issues to be worked through. During the process of therapy we can explore the underlying causes and gain understanding on how these are contributing to your current distress. The models of therapy I am trained in are aimed at understanding how earlier events and relationships(often from childhood) underly these experiences. Cognitive Analytic Therapy is normally between 8-24 sessions(typically 16) and Psychodynamic is more open ended. The location of the rooms I practice from all have parking nearby.
