Aileen Milne BA Hons, PG Dip, MSc, BACP ACCRED.
Hello, I am Aileen, thanks for taking the time to look at my details.
I have over 20 years experience working as a counsellor, am qualified to MSc level ( from University of Bristol) and I offer supervision and counselling to counsellors and counselling students, as well as working with individuals, couples and groups.
I offer an initial free 20minute introductory session via the telephone where we can get a sense of how we can work together. I work mainly with face to face sessions and am also experienced at working online and over the telephone.
I have experience working with many issues including: generalised anxiety, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, relationship problems, work related issues and many more issues, all of which can be very distressing to experience and can diminish people's confidence and stop them enjoying their lives.
I aim to create an environment that feels safe and non-judgmental, to facilitate the exploration of the difficulties people are experiencing
I am an accredited British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) counsellor/ psychotherapist, a BACP member and I am registered with UKRCP (UK register of counsellors/psychotherapists). I have worked in various settings. These have included counselling in a young peoples' counselling service, in local educational settings and with the WEA , working for a company (a leading Employment Assistance provider- EAP) which provides counselling for employees all over the UK, as well as in private practice. Working within an EAP (assessing problems and offering counselling to employees), has given me insight into work related issues.
I originally studied the psychodynamic model of counselling and psychotherapy and over the years I have embraced other approaches such as CBT and solution focused-predominately for working on strategies to tackle specific problems within a short time framework.
I adopt values from person centred therapy - namely: empathy, unconditional positive regard/ respect, and congruence and ideas of personal growth and empowerment.
I work both short term (usually 6-12 sessions) and also longer term, in psychodynamic based work. I offer counselling over the telephone where appropriate and am experienced in working on line. As a professional counsellor / psychotherapist, I abide by the BACP code of ethics.
I offer supervision to individuals and groups. I also supervise trainee counsellors. I accept referrals from GPs and other professionals.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
