Adam Sandelson Counselling and Psychotherapy Service
I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist for nearly 30 years, since my accreditation in 1993. Alongside my private practice, I’ve worked for 11 years in the NHS and managed a large team in the university sector at LSE. As a therapist I’m interested in making sense of your difficulties, helping to find meaning and solutions to problems. I believe the quality of the therapeutic relationship is key to help you feel heard, understood and to help you overcome your difficulties. My approach is integrative with a strong psychodynamic base, drawing on 25 years experience offering cognitive behavioural therapy and other approaches.
I’ve worked with hundreds of people in private practice, as well as many GP surgeries and also clinical psychology departments in the NHS, as well as at LSE (London School of Economics). I’ve also managed a large NHS counselling service, and have been the Head of Counselling and then Head of Student Wellbeing at LSE, managing a team of 30 counsellors, mental health advisers and disability advisers.

I also worked for 8 years as a core trainer on the CPPD BACP Accredited counselling course. My training and qualifications include:

- Postgraduate Diploma from the Tavistock Centre
- Diploma in Clinical Supervision from CPPD 2002
- BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist (Snr. MBACP, initial accreditation in 1993)
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
