About me

Hello, and a very warm welcome. You may have found yourself here for a number of reasons.  Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, or that you are struggling with the stresses and strains that life can sometimes throw at us.  You may feel as though you keep repeating the same, unhelpful patterns which are having a negative impact on your life. You may identify with a particular mental health diagnosis which you feel you need some help to better understand and cope with.  Or maybe there are some things in your life, past or present, that you just need some time and space to explore and make sense of.

My name is Dr Abi McGinley, and I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist who works predominantly with adults aged 18+. Alongside my private practice, I have worked for the NHS since 2013, and I currently work as a senior clinician within highly specialist NHS services.  I work with a range of psychological presentations, including anxiety, low mood, trauma-related difficulties, hearing voices, intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviours, grief, low self-esteem and interpersonal difficulties.  Furthermore, I also work with people who just wish to get to know themselves a little better, and explore how experiences in their life may have influenced their patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving.  People come to therapy for a wide range of reasons and this is not an exhaustive list.  Please do get in touch to discuss your own individual requirements.

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I am here to offer a safe and non-judgemental environment to help you with the difficulties you're experiencing. I adopt a sensitive and empathic approach to my work, and I place great importance on building a supportive, collaborative relationship with my clients. Each person that begins therapy does so with their own unique story, preferences, hopes and fears. I believe that psychological therapy should be equally as personal and individual, and I draw on a range of psychological therapies in order to do this.

I am based in Glasgow, and I have appointments available in a comfortable therapy room in Bearsden.  I can offer appointments to those who live locally, as well as to those who wish to travel from other geographical areas.  I can also offer online appointments to those living across the UK.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.
