About me

Hello, I'm Abbie. I'm a qualified counsellor and registered member of the BACP. I understand that looking for a counsellor can feel overwhelming. Whatever is troubling you we can discuss and work through together, know that you are not alone.

I offer a safe and non-judgmental space for us to be able to talk about whatever is troubling you. I will listen to you and accept what you have to say. I am an integrative counsellor and heavily influenced by person-centeredness. I believe that counselling is a journey but one that you do not have to walk alone. I am not an advice giver but will support you to find your own way, one that is right for you.

I believe we all need support at points in our life. Whether it be to work on specific goals that are troubling us now or longer-term issues that have become too difficult to manage alone. Together we can work on making these topics easier to manage and understand and then develop a path to be able to move forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and as such adhere to their ethical guidelines.

The qualifications I currently hold are:

  • BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology
  • Post Graduate Certificate Counselling and Interpersonal Skills
  • Post Graduate Diploma Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I have experience of working with individuals in student counselling and adult counselling. I work with all genders from the age of 18 upwards.

I offer short term, brief therapy or longer term therapy.

I have worked with the following areas:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Substance abuse
  • Grief
  • Loss
  • Bereavement
  • Relationship issues
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Eating disorders
  • Body image
  • Illness
  • Disability
  • Sexuality
  • Family problems
  • Rape
  • Abuse (sexual, domestic, emotional)

I have worked for a number of years in the NHS supporting adults with learning disabilities. Throughout this work I have enjoyed supporting people to make their own decisions and enrich their lives. This role has helped me develop a wealth of experience in working with and supporting adults with learning disabilities and their families.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
