About me

What I Offer

Are you feeling anxious or depressed? Or feel that you lack self-confidence? Or are struggling with relationship issues? Or have recently suffered a bereavement (including infant loss through miscarriage, still birth or neonate death)? Or have experienced a trauma, now or in the past? Or just generally feel dissatisfied with life and want to get more out of it? I work with you to address and understand these issues.

I am a warm and approachable person and can help guide you through difficult times by providing a confidential, non-judgemental and supportive relationship, so that together we can explore the issues that are bothering you. Having someone listen attentively to you each week can be invaluable and lead to lasting change.

I am a qualified, experienced and BACP registered, counsellor working from my comfortable and quiet practice in Dulwich Village, Southeast London.

How I work

I am trained as an Integrative therapist, which means I tailor the techniques and theories I use to meet your unique needs. I offer both short-term solution-focused counselling and longer term, more in-depth psychotherapy. We can discuss what might be most appropriate for you when you first get in touch.

My priority is establishing a safe, trusting and confidential relationship with you so that you feel able to talk freely about any issues that are bothering you. I will listen attentively, try to put myself in your shoes and together we can work to improve your situation so that you feel more able to get the most out of life.

I work with adults and young people (over 18 yrs.) who come with a wide variety of issues and concerns including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, eating issues, isolation, low self-esteem or just feeling stuck and wanting more out of life.

I also work with trainee therapists/counsellors who are required to, or wish to, undertake their own therapy whilst training.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed a 5 year training in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute, widely considered to be one of the best training institutions in the UK, validated by Middlesex University.

I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Integrative Counselling from the Metanoia Institute and am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP), who are the largest registering body for counsellors and psychotherapists and I abide by their ethics and codes of practice. I am committed to continuing professional development.

I started work as a counsellor back in 1980 when I worked with the Anorexia Counselling Service in Leeds, as well as with MIND.

Since then I have worked both within the NHS and for low-cost counselling services. I have worked in Doctors' surgeries in Lambeth, London offering short-term counselling to patients; I have also worked at Oxleas NHS Trust in Woolwich, offering long-term therapy to patients diagnosed with personality disorders.

My work in low-cost counselling services was usually long-term work with a wide variety of clients.

I have recently undertaken training with the Foundation for Infant Loss.

In addition to my counselling work, I have had a career as a qualitative market researcher, conducting focus groups on a huge variety of topics. This career helped give me broad life experience, as well as honing my listening skills.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
