Abby Ord MBACP (Accred) Counselling for depression, anxiety, bereavement & more
Are you looking for a counsellor to help you?
If life feels overwhelming, if you’re stuck, trapped or not sure what’s wrong, counselling can be a way to resolve whatever holds you back. If you’ve experienced loss, bereavement, trauma, stress, relationship breakdown or any kind of life-crisis, talking to a counsellor can be powerfully healing and helpful in getting you through it. It doesn’t matter if your experiences are in the past or present, if you’re struggling, then I will work with you to help you process your thoughts and feelings.
My primary aim is to offer you a safe and regular space for you to talk things through at your own pace. The most important element of any therapy is the relationship between client and counsellor, and I work hard to encourage a strong connection. I will offer you a relationship based on trust, warmth and acceptance, because that is the best way to help you get the most out of your counselling.
I don’t specialise in any particular area of counselling, because I believe that you as a whole person are more important than any one thing that may have happened to you. I encourage and welcome anything you want bring to counselling, and I will support you in working out what is important to you personally. It is not always clear at the start what might be the most helpful thing to work on, so I will work collaboratively with you to understand the underlying issues.
You may find it hard to make the first step to get in touch, I understand how much courage it can take, and so I aim to guide you through the process sensitively and kindly. I will answer any questions or queries openly and honestly.
If you are new to counselling, you may not know at all what to expect, so please do contact me if you want to know more.

My Counselling Approach:
I have an integrative approach, based primarily on humanistic and psychodynamic therapies. Humanistic therapy aims to help individuals to develop their potential by offering a compassionate and non-judgmental relationship. Psychodynamic counselling offers a helpful insight into how past experiences need to be resolved before you can live more fully in the present.
What this approach means for you:
- A focus on you and your individual needs
- Support for you to grow and develop as a person
- Helping you to heal from the past
- An opportunity to process your emotions without judgment
- Enabling you to experience new patterns of relating
- Developing your confidence and self-esteem
- Respect for you as an individual
- Empowering you to make changes in your life
Please be aware that my counselling approach is not about offering you advice or guidance. It is a common misconception that counsellors can tell you how to solve your problems, but this is not true. The process of counselling will support you to find solutions that are right for you personally.
