HOW THERAPY CAN HELP
Counselling and psychotherapy provides an ongoing opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings, face-to-face and confidentially, with an experienced therapist who will listen and think with you as you work through your difficulties.

The therapist is not there to give advice or make decisions for you, but to help you find and overcome the stumbling blocks that keep you from living a more satisfying life. Therapy is a safe place to reflect on how you respond to life events and how you relate to yourself and others.

Whether you want to discuss past experiences, concerns about the future, or issues with the way you are living right now, therapy is a route to greater self-awareness and reaching your potential.

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING

I am also a Somatic Experiencer (SEP). This is a powerful body based 'talking therapy', capable of relieving physical, emotional and psychological shock, stress and trauma. Somatic Experiencing® teaches simple, powerful strategies that mobilise the body's innate self-healing systems - the same physiological processes that mend broken bones and fight disease.

Knowledge of trauma's patterns can help ease traumatic reactions as well as potentially prevent symptoms developing after an overwhelming event. Practising SE can be a significant support not just in your own life but to those around you.

COUPLE COUNSELLING

Have you relationship issues ? Is your relationship struggling? Are you fighting, bickering and arguing all the time?
Or maybe you have lost the closeness, love and intimacy, you once had.

Are you longing to ‘get back on track’ and find the love again?
Is your relationship ‘just ticking over, with no juiciness and excitement.
Or maybe you have met someone, and this has impacted on your relationship.

Couple Counselling can help. Let me support you.

I offer a safe, non judgmental space to explore the relationship issues issues that you are both struggling with. A space where you can ‘let your hair down’ and be your self. Where you can get the love you so want.

I have supported many couples in getting their needs met.

Many of the top relationship experts believe that we are attracted to another in order to heal some aspect of our self. We are often attracted to someone who displays some of the worst aspects of our original caregivers.

Usually our first model of relationship came from our original caregivers when we were young. This became our relationship model for love. Healthy of unhealthy, it has impacted on us in our current relationships. We often tend to seek out another that often mirrors that relationship. This is this done unconsciously.

Couple Counselling is an opportunity to begin to explore these relationship patterns and heal them.

I provide a safe space to begin to slow down and see what is going on. A space to slowly build the trust to be able to be vulnerable with each other and heal ones self and the relationship. Over time, the couple can begin to re-build their relationship and re-discover the love they so want.

Often couples come to me when they have reached a dead end and have got stuck.
Communication skills have broken down and the love they once had seems to have vanished.

I have spent that last 20 years exploring, understanding and working on relationship issues.
I have worked with Jewels Wingfield. and Jan Day, two of the top conscious relationship trainers in the country. I bring my experience, wisdom and skills to help support you in healing your relationship.

I use the work & techniques of Dr Sue Johnson (“Hold me Tight”) and Harville Hendrick ( “Finding the Love you Want” ) .
Both of these books are essential reading, to understanding relationship issues healing you relationship.

The journey of relationship is one of the most important challenges in our life.

We need support & wisdom to make it work.

I can support you.

I have a Certificate in the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts and a MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy from The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE) , awarded by London Metropolitan University. I attended the Child 20 Day Program run by IATE and the Corrective Attachment Therapy Parenting Course at The Evergreen Psychotherapy Centre in Colorado, USA.

I have been practicing Buddhism for the past 30 years which has given a deep understanding of my self and human nature. I work with adults, young people and children. Between 2005 - 2010, I worked as the only male Psychotherapist at Whitehawk Primary School seeing both adults and children. Up to recently I was working with young people (ages 13- 25) at the Young People Centre in Brighton.

Prior to my therapy training, I worked in the Performing Arts profession and am well aware of the strains and stresses of working in that industry. I still work as a teacher at many of the top Drama Schools (The Drama Centre, Central School of Speech & Drama). I am currently Lecturer in Performing Arts at Bexhill 6th Form College.

I also have many years of working with young men and men and understand the struggles they go through, especially Anger and Depression. Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

INTEGRATIVE ARTS PSYCHOTHERAPY

Although I use a combination of different therapeutic models including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, and Jungian Theory, I can also use the Arts as a way of helping clients to express difficult and buried emotions.
Using words is always a good place to start in Counselling & Psychotherapy, but sometimes the issues we wish to look at lie in the unconscious, and the use of language maybe insufficient into delving into the depths of the problem.

By using the Arts we can 'fast track' our way into the unconscious and get right to the heart of the problem. Not only does one get surprising results, but it also can be a deeply satisfying and rich process. Yes, Therapy can be fun !!!! Each individual must go at their own pace and sometimes using the arts is not always appropriate, but my experience with clients, has been that over time, having built up trust, using the Arts has can be a very powerful way to discover new parts of ones self that would otherwise be buried.

Both Children and Adults can benefit from working with the Arts.
The Art forms I may use could be: Painting, Sand tray, Music, Clay, Music, Dance and Drawing. Each person will find the art form that resonates with them deeply.

Below are some videos and articles about how Art therapy can be used in the the Therapeutic process:
