About me

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist and Psychodynamic Counsellor, UKCP registered and I work to their ethical standards.

I have 30 years experience of working with adults and children/young people and their families/carers as a psychotherapist, counsellor and social worker within the statutory, voluntary and independent/private sector.

I run a private counselling and psychotherapy practice from Taunton and Wiveliscombe for adults, children, young people, families and couples; open ended and time limited work. I work part time as a psychotherapist for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

I am trained in EMDR and happy to work with Individuals in this way when appropriate.

I previously worked for 11 years for the NSPCC, mainly providing therapeutic work to children/young people and their parents or carers. For the following 6 years I worked as Senior and then Principal Therapist for a national Independent Foster Care Provider, providing therapeutic support to the Foster Carers and the children/young people placed with them. I have been working for Child and Adolscent Mental Health Services for the last 7 years.

An Integrative Approach:

Of fundamental importance for me is the recognition of peoples wish and potential for fulfilment and happiness.

Adverse, negative experiences can lead the individual to adapt and develop coping strategies. Often first adopted in early life, these strategies can lead to problematic emotional, thought and behavioural patterns, both in relation to experiences of self and experiences of self with others.

This integrative approach to therapy provides the opportunity to explore these very personal developmental experiences within the safe setting of a therapeutic relationship. Attention is given to beneficial and preferred ways of tackling the experienced difficulties, depending on individual personality styles.

For some people a time limited approach of focussing on specific issues within an agreed number of sessions may be sufficient. Issues relating to more deeply rooted difficulties may require open ended therapeutic work that allows for a more gradual development of the work and the therapeutic relationship.

Services Offered:

Due to Corvid19 I currently offer online video sessions via Zoom or Skype.

Individual counselling and psychotherapy (time limited and open ended work) for adults and young people.

Couple counselling sessions for concerns regarding your relationship to improve communication and intimacy.

Family consultations, involving all members or parts of your family to address relational difficulties or crisis within your family.

Individual work with children following consultation with parents and/or carers.

What happens:

An initial consultation allows for an exploration of your situation and whether therapy seems right for you at this time.

This will also allow for a consideration of the most suitable form of therapy or consultation for your particular situation, i.e. individual, couple or family work. Sometimes a combination of these approaches are most helpful.

Individual meetings usually take place on a regular weekly basis. Couple and family sessions by arrangement.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
