About me

I am an experienced, warm and sensitive counsellor and accredited EMDR practitioner. I am experienced in working with adults, children, young people, families and couples. I can work remotely or locally in Whitstable.  I can offer my therapeutic services online and by telephone. I am experienced in providing both online counselling and online EMDR using Skype, Zoom or WhatsApp.

I offer a confidential, non-judgmental and supportive environment that enables the opportunity for clients to talk through and resolve issues and concerns.
I support clients in exploring and understanding their situation, and in finding ways to move forward.
I work with clients to draw upon their strengths and resources in developing understanding and overcoming problems, and to make any changes that they want in their life.

I am available for counselling on week days and some evenings. Online counselling and online EMDR are available.

I aim to provide an environment and relationship where clients feel at ease and able to talk about, explore and resolve difficult issues. With children I have a range of toys and creative materials they can use in the sessions to help them express themselves in age appropriate ways. I working with families and can help the different individuals within the family system understand each others positions and support more harmonious communication and relationships. I also offer support to parents.

  • Some problems suit a counselling approach, however, traumatic life events can become stuck and it can be difficult to move forward. Trauma related problems and anxiety may be more effectively resolved using EMDR.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a psychological treatment to help people recover from distressing events and trauma. I can offer EMDR with counselling when appropriate because some problems can be more effectively resolved through EMDR (See below).
  • I am also qualified to use EMDR with children which can be especially effective as they are still maturing

I am easily accessible by car, a minutes walk from a bus stop and 15 minutes walk from the train station.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

What is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a psychological treatment to help people recover from distressing events and trauma.
EMDR aims to change how people feel about their traumatic memories. It helps people to develop more positive emotions, behaviour and thoughts and to feel that the memory is no long disturbing.
EMDR appears to directly stimulate the brain's ability to digest past traumatic events and works effectively and quickly to heal the wounds that are left on the emotional brain.

  • EMDR is an approach that is effective for the treatment of traumatic memories. It has been widely validated by research and is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) as the treatment of choice for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
  • EMDR works in a way that seems to accelerate the processes for resolving certain issues so that in many instances people are seen to have resolved certain issues in a much shorter time than through talking therapy/counselling alone.
  • EMDR has also been shown to be effective in treating more chronic problems such as anxiety, stress, phobias, addictions and lack of self confidence.
  • EMDR is also remarkably effective in the treatment of people who have suffered trauma such as ongoing childhood abuse, although this may require more extensive therapeutic time.
