Hello thank you for looking at my details. This may be the first time you are considering therapy so it is quite understandable for you to wonder how I can help you and what to expect from the therapy. It may be that you are feeling anxious or depressed and currently unhappy with problems and difficulties in your personal or professional life. You may have recently suffered a trauma or a bereavement or difficulties from the past may have come back to trouble you now. Talking your feelings through with someone who is professionally trained to help can be of great benefit to you.
Life can throw many curve balls at us and sometimes we can find it hard to cope. Life changes and transitions like parenthood, new job, redundancy etc can sometimes turn out different to what we expect. However it could also just be a general feeling that something isnt quite right and you have feelings of anxiety or unease which are hard to define - its just that you wish to be happier and want to live a more fulfilled life.
Irrespective of whether we watch or listen to the news these days we cannot escape that we are living through challenging times. It is no shame or weakness to reach out to ask for help - it fact it can be one of the bravest things you do - for yourself! This quote from the famous author DH Lawrence, written many years ago, shows that tragedies and difficulties will always occur in the global world - yet we can, if we wish, seek help to change life in our own personal world ‘Ours is essentially a tragic age, so lets refuse to take it tragically. The cataclysm has happened, we are among the ruins, we start to build up new little habitats, to have new little hopes. It is rather hard work: there is now no smooth road into the future: but we go round, or scramble over the obstacles. We’ve got to live, no matter how many skies have fallen.’
I am a qualified Psychotherapist/Counsellor with many years of counselling expereince. I can offer you a professional therapeutic service in a safe and confidential space. I work in a compassionate, warm and integrative manner which means I draw upon ideas and training from a number of different theoretical backgrounds. I have professional experience of working with numerous client issues, ranging from anxiety, depression, relationship problems, anger issues, bereavement, low self esteem, lack of confidence, stress, work related problems, addictive behaviours, a lack of direction, loss of way, family problems, abuse etc.
I qualified with a Post Graduate Degree in Counselling Skills in 2002 from the University of Hertfordshire and as well as running a private practice I have worked within the public and voluntary sector offering counselling to people with a wide and diverse range of problems and issues. I have also studied Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Meditation Therapy and where necessary can incorporate these into our counselling sessions.
I have further interest in the study of existential psychotherapy which has more of a phillosophical base whereby we look at who we really are, what really matters and what we really want from our life. Counselling can help to explore these ideas and thoughts to bring you to a calmer and better place than you may be in right now.
My private practice is run from a residential setting which is easily accessible to London Colney, St Albans, Radlett, Shenley, Hatfield and surrounding villages but also North London due to its close proximity to the M25.
If you would like to contact me to arrange for counselling we will then arrange an initial meeting where we will discuss what is troubling you and to see if we can work therapeutically together. We can then either agree to meet for a fixed number of sessions, or we can work together in an open-ended way for as long as it benefits and feels right for you.
