About me

Are you troubled by stress, anxiety, depression?

Do you experience a problematic relationship?

Are you feeling over welcomed with the demands of your life?

Is your physical health being compromised by unrealistic circumstances?

I

I am a professionally qualified and experienced psychotherapist & counsellor offering a sensitive, confidential therapeutic service to INDIVIDUALS, COUPLES and FAMILIES. With over 20 years' experience in a variety of settings  I provide professional and effective therapy in private practice.

Sessions here are held face-to-face and online by Zoom and Skype.  I am able to offer counselling and psychotherapy to people who are housebound, or living outside this vicinity, and overseas.

From October, couples and individual sessions will be available face-to-face

I offer counselling for individuals and couples who find themselves in an emotional crisis or who want to explore problems in their lives - some of which may have originated within childhood and adolescence. Many people tolerate chronic anxiety and depression when taking the small step to seek out effective help can lead to recovery.  My approach is responsive to individual circumstances and enables my clients to feel trust and reassurance.

This may be by overcoming difficult past experiences and relationship problems in the present. Often it is about recovering from some form of loss and finding of self. As your therapist I will be there to help share the journey with you.  I have a personal commitment to working with people from all walks of life, ages, sexual orientation, ethnicity and faith.

I also see clients on behalf of employee assistance programmes (EAPs) and accident related insurance agencies. My work is confidential and regulated by the Code of Ethics of the UKCP. The Practice is GDPR compliant.

Making Contact

I welcome enquiries by email or phone. I am available for appointments in the daytime and evening;  I will return your call or email message within 24 hours. I offer short term focused and open-ended/long term counselling and psychotherapy.  An initial consultation can be arranged without obligation to further sessions, usually within a few days. Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Family therapy

I offer family therapy using the 'lifespan' systemic model. I work with family groups comprising all adults, or adults and children (up to 3 people), where relationships have become problematic. I have experience with issues arising from fostering and adoption.

Couples therapy

I am trained and experienced in working with heterosexual and lesbian couples using a psychodynamic model. Appointments can be arranged at short notice including early morning and late evening times.

Parents and Babies

Having a new baby can bring extra anxieties and pressures into life; I am happy to facilitate for parents with young babies to bring them along to sessions so that counselling/therapy can be accessible.
