About me

I am 69 years old and live and work in Bristol, UK. I have spent most of my life working in teaching and training roles of various kinds.

I am a Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and a registrant on the BACP accredited voluntary register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I am accredited as a Breathworks Mindfulness Trainer, qualified to teach Mindfulness for Stress and Mindfulness for Health courses.  Details:

I am now running 1 to 1 and small group Breathworks Mindfulness for Health and Stress 8-week courses in Bristol, send an email to enquire.

I am a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order (ex-Western Buddhist Order) and teach Buddhist meditation classes and retreats in and around Bristol.

I usually work away from home in a comfortable and very peaceful counselling room in Bedminster, Bristol, UK within easy reach of buses, trains and good parking. It is possible to safely store a bicycle.

Because of the Covid Pandemic I am currently only offering Zoom or Facetime video conferencing sessions and have counselled clients via video conferencing for nearly a year now.  This has made it possible to see clients from anywhere in the world.   I run these sessions from my counselling room.

My one to one Counselling hourly fee for 2018 is:

£25 (income support), £35ph (low-wage) or £45 (fully-waged).

Relationship Counselling is £35ph, £45ph or £55ph (depending on combined income - can be discussed)

I can offer reduced rates to anyone wanting counselling but in difficult financial circumstances, and will consider offering fortnightly sessions to ease payment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified in 1993 as a Counsellor with a Certificate and Diploma in Counselling from the Central School of Counselling and Therapy and have worked regularly as a Counsellor since then.

I have studied CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and have a CBT Practitioner Certificate from the University of the West of England.

I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and a registrant on their accredited voluntary register of Counsellors and Pyschotherapists.

I have passed the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Certificate of Proficiency

I am an Accredited Breathworks Mindfulness Teacher

I was accredited in 1994 as Cruse Bereavement Counsellor.

I am an accredited Co-teacher in Co-Counselling.

The past 5 years I have been studying Marshall Rosenberg's Non-Violent Communication (NVC) teachings and have completed 38hrs of residential NVC training with Robert Gonzalez from the USA.   I have chosen to not pursue being a certified NVC trainer.

I have been a Buddhist for 40 years, and an Ordained member of the Triratna Buddhist Order for 22 years. I enjoy exploring the spiritual dimensions of therapy and counselling.

I have an Advanced Diploma in Speech and Drama from the Central School of Speech and Drama in Swiss Cottage, London.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My counselling style draws from all of my qualifications and interests - it is very person-centred. I encourage clients to shape and direct sessions themselves in order to create a safe and creative space.

When you come for Counselling we are making together a special space where you can safely explore your concerns and difficulties. This space is held by building a strong and trusting relationship.  This is why connection and safety are important factors when choosing a Counsellor. The choice is very important and, for this reason, I like to see a prospective client twice before we each sign a formal, written Counselling contract.  Once we are sure we can work together, then the Counselling can begin.

I also work as a Supervisor, either individually or in teams at a special hourly rate.

Sessions are 1 hour, ideally on a regular, weekly basis and I follow the BACP Code of Ethics.

I have regular Supervision with a UKCP accredited Psychoanalyst and regular Mindfulness Supervision
