Other areas of counselling I deal with
In addition to the above I am a member of the Association of Family Therapy. This work involves trying to work out what is best for a parent/parents and their children. Sometimes this works, other times it doesn't but it is always worth a try to save a family from fracturing.
Also, I have experience working with those who are Transgender. I spent 10 years working in the NHS as Lead therapist in Sexual Health across 2 hospitals. I am well aware of the waiting length times in the Public Sector hence the need for the private sector. It's sad that these services are dwindling in the NHS but It is people like myself who are able to pick up, for example, those who do not want to wait for an appointment several months ahead.
For 12 years I worked in the fertility field as a counsellor interviewing those who wanted fertility treatment. Generally I was responsible for those I decided were not suitable for treatment and those who were suitable. It was an onerouse task and I admit thaton occasion I have no doubt I came to the wrong decision. However, since I was part of an Ethics Comittee I was able to look at people's experiences in a different way.
In addition, I worked on a Children's Cancer ward. It was a heartbreaking job but I hope those I looked after felt they had gained as much from me as I from them.

Life can be fine one minute and not the next; we never know when this might happen. Having someone to talk to, who is impartial and can see "the wood from the trees" is usually very helpful.
Families can be great listeners but , in my experience working with couples and individuals, listening is different, we are objective.
In addition, I like to think that I am not seen as someone who sits on a pedestal; I am as human as everyone else. I have made mistakes in the past and, no doubt, will do so in the future.
If I have made someone smile in a session, it has been a good session.
I have experience seeing people with:
relationship issues Couples issues
low self esteem/confidence
Transgender/Transexual family issues
work- related stress
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
