Emma Starck psychotherapist UKCP (Skype option)
Counselling is valuable for everyone at some point in their lives. I am an attachment-based psychoanalytical psychotherapist with 15 years experience in full time practice. It is always important to establish a good relationship with your therapist/ counsellor so please feel free to email me or phone if you have any queries before your initial session.
I have a background teaching physics in high school. Observing how emotional distress affects all areas of a childs' life led me into the field of psychology. It was clear that emotional blocks in children affected their ability to concentrate in class which in turn meant they were not achieving their full potential. This also resonated with my own experience as a child and I felt compelled to find out more about myself through having my own personal counselling and therapy. I have found the experiences of self discovery valuable and essential; I hope that I can inspire others to learn about their true self which is sometimes hidden from the world.
I am a mother to a pre-school child and work part time as a psychotherapist to adolescents, individuals and couples. I teach new therapists how to apply Attachment Theory to Clinical Practice and also give seminars on Attachment and Dissociative Disorders.
I am always keen to expand my own knowledge and completed a Play and Creative Arts Therapy Course in 2010 with Lila. I believe creativity is a key element of a fulfilled and authentic life. In 2013 I completed a Jungian Supervision Training. I have attended several family constellation groups from 2013 until 2019. I have found all the types of therapy beneficial in different ways for different people and there is a richness and also a comfort in recognising the similarities between the many different approaches to psychological problems.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Centre for Attachment-Based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, (now renamed as The Bowlby Centre). I have experience with a wide range of clients. Before my career as a counsellor I completed a degree in Mechanical & Structural Engineering and then went on to teach physics for 10 years in secondary schools in Sussex and London.
