I am an experienced counsellor/psychotherapist (over 20,000 hours client sessions) offering individual and couples counselling. I work from my home near OAKHAM and from the Church Street Practice in MELTON MOWBRAY.
- I have 25 years experience as a qualified, Registered Independent Practitioner. I have extensive experience working for the NHS, heading up a therapy service in one of the largest GP Medical Practices in the UK.
I have considerable experience in working with a wide range of issues including: depression, anxiety, including generalised anxiety disorder, coping with change and uncertainty, phobias, panic disorder, stress, bereavement and loss, pregnancy and childbirth issues and relationship issues.
I am an EMDR Practitioner. EMDR is the therapy of choice recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Exellence) for trauma and disturbing memories.
I work using an integrative approach which means I have training and experience in different ways of working which enables me to tailor the way I work to the needs of the individual.
I believe that the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is central to the work.

I work with issues such as work stress, anxiety, confidence issues that require a CBT approach. CBT is useful in helping to identify and change unhelpful thinking patterns that result in self defeating behaviours. EMDR can be used for painful or traumatic memories that interfere with life now. It is also useful for anxiety and phobias.
I have considerable experience in working with couples who have relationship difficulties or whose relationship is in crisis. I am increasingly working with couples who want to understand themselves and each other more fully, are preparing to live together or are getting married and as such want to explore areas like communication, managing conflict, finance, values, career isues, parenting, sexual intimacy.
I also help them to understand personality differences using personal profiling tools. Couples often need to understand how their experience in their family of origin impacts on their current intimate relationships. Learned patterns of relating can be understood and changed in order to improve the quality of the relationship.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
