About me

I am a UKCP registered, experienced and professionally trained therapist. I offer a free initial consultation in Regent Street, Central London, incorporating brief or long-term therapy for a deeper exploration of your life. My consulting room is only a short walk from Oxford Circus and Piccadilly tubes, providing a quiet, comfortable space for clients who come from all walks of life with a wide range of issues including low self esteem, depression, anxiety, addictions and relationship problems.

During our initial consultation we will discuss what has prompted you to contact me; the issue as you see it and any past or current background information you are willing to share at this point. I will talk through my ideas for a treatment plan with you which will be shaped by us both over coming sessions. You will have a chance to ask me any questions about how I work or voice any concerns so that you can decide whether I am someone with whom you feel comfortable to share personal thoughts and feelings.

My aim is to help you gain a greater understanding of yourself in a confidential, non-judgemental and safe environment. I avoid using jargon and incorporate a variety of techniques and theories drawing from different approaches to increase your awareness of behaviours and beliefs which might be preventing you from leading a satisfying and rewarding life.

Above all, I believe that lasting change is achieved through a supportive, open and trusting relationship between therapist and client. In addition to my experience and theoretical understanding, this is what I offer clients who come to see me with a wide range of issues and expectations. For some people as few as 6 -12 sessions will be sufficient and for others it is more appropriate for therapy to be open ended. In either case, I aim to facilitate real and lasting change through a flexible approach tailored to the individual.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified, UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist, I offer both short and long-term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples and am recognized by most major health insurance companies.

During my six-year, professionally accredited training at the Gestalt Centre, London, I completed a Post Graduate diploma, Masters Degree and gained UKCP accreditation.

Since training, I have worked within the NHS as a counsellor in GP surgeries and in a psychiatric hospital. I currently work part-time at the Priory Hospital, where I see individual clients and run therapy and psycho-educational groups for adults and adolescents on issues such as self-esteem, assertiveness and depression.

My experience, prior to becoming a therapist, of working creatively with people and of the demands of the commercial world as a creative director and freelance designer, provide a useful background to being a therapist. My work is professionally supervised and I work to the ethical guidelines set out in the UKCP Codes of Ethics and Practice.

My interest in understanding how people think and behave has led to a number of written contributions to publications such as Psychologies magazine and the website, Big White Wall. I appeared last year on W channels 'On Friendship' TV documentary on the impact of Social Media on relationships.

Further information

My approach

I incorporate different techniques and theories tailored to suit the unique situation of each client or couple. These approaches include gestalt therapy, with its focus on the present; CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy) to identify and challenge distorted thoughts and perspectives and psychodynamic therapy which examines the past and how it has shaped us. Mindfulness, visualisations, role plays and creative experiments are offered to enliven the process with experiential learning providing tools to use outside the sessions. This integrative approach enables the flexibility to work with many different issues and concerns.
