About me

I am an accredited EMDR practitioner and UKCP mindfulness based psychotherapist working in private practice since June 2000. I specialise in trauma and addictions and have worked in the NHS and specialist addiction treatment centres.

I came to counselling from a career working as a volunteer overseas and then in organic farming in Britain. I started my training after a long illness that stopped me working in agriculture. My background has given me a respect for the diversity and the rhythms of nature and the mind.

I believe that, whatever the problem, in counselling we are looking for someone who can hear and understand how we feel, and be alongside us as we try to make sense of it. This is what I aim to do, and have found that this in itself often leads to resolution.

I have a special interest in trauma, and am trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) a scientifically researched technique that has proved very effective with Post traumatic Stress Disorder. I am particularly interested in the effects of early attachment trauma, and have found EMDR very effective in dealing with anxiety, somatic symptoms and other issues related to childhood trauma.

I also maintain my interest in addictions and work both directly on the addictive tendencies using cognitive techniques and with the underlying issues, such as trauma and abuse, that have caused them.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
