The Turner Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy
The Tudor House
52 North Hill
The Turner Centre is a private counselling & psychotherapy centre with over 30 highly experienced professional and qualified therapists and clinical psychologists specialising in a range of emotional difficulties as well as providing clinical supervision to qualified therapists and other health care professionals.
The centre is comfortable & welcoming and situated in the centre of Colchester town on North Hill. It occupies the large tudor building next to the Sixth Form College. It is easily accessible via public transport and there are several carparks nearby the nearest being just 3 minutes walk away.
We see individuals, couples, children and young people, families and groups. We have a specialist psychosexual psychotherapist who sees couples and individuals experiencing difficulties in their sexual relationship or need to understand their own sexual or gender identity. We also have an Art Psychotherapist who works with children and adults who find it easier to communicate through the medium of art.
We are qualified in, and work from, a range of models of therapy including psychodynamic, integrative, CBT, psychosynthesis and transactional analysis for various fees which reflect our experience and qualification starting at £10 a session (to see a student therapist on placement) to £25 - £60 to see a qualified or accredited therapist. Our CBT therapy ranges from £50 - £65. We work from early in the morning until late into the evening and a small number of therapists work on a Saturday. We are all registered with one of the main therapy organisations and work to a code of ethical practice ensuring a high standard of care.
We have a part-time administrator who will take your call and talk to you about your availability and discuss what you are looking for. From here we will try and find the most suitable therapist for you who will call and invite you into the centre at a time to suit you for an initial appointment. This will allow you to get a sense as to whether therapy will be helpful and to decide if you can work with the therapist. You can have a think about the session and make contact with the therapist directly if you decide to continue. We also have an answerphone where you can leave a message if the administrator is unavailable. In this instance one of our therapists will call you back. All calls to our centre are treated confidentially.
Training, qualifications & experience
We are all professionally qualified and experienced therapists and psychologists and belong to one of the main therapy organisations including the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), BABP (British Association for Behaviour Psychotherapies), BPS (British Psychological Society), BASRT (British Association for Sexual and Relationship Therapy) UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapist), IFT (Institute for Family Therapy), HPC (Health Professions Council). Many of us are accredited and qualified to masters level and all are independent practitioners. Some of us also offer supervision to other qualified therapists as well as other health care professionals.
Our student therapists on placement are supervised by our own experienced therapists on a weekly basis.
All our therapists and psychologists maintain continuing professional development and have regular clinical supervision which is a requirement of being registered and to work at the Turner Centre.
We also hold seminars and workshops for people thinking about becoming a counsellor as well as for therapists wishing to expand their knowledge and experience (see the Seminars page on our website for more information).
